  • I just picked up this at the little Mexican market down the street with some Valentina’s and banana leaves.

    It is delightful.

Just bought some Marie Sharp's. !! Remarkable. Pretty hot. To me, has a really strong lime citrus flavor. A little like Walkerwood's jerk, but, well, more Sharp. Had it w. some beef. Not the best pairing. Thinking shrimp next time.
  • So.....here is how I classify 'favorite'.  We go thru a gallon of this in about 4 months (per amazon).  LOL  1 Gallon Franks RedHot Wings Buffalo Wing Sauce

Like most people in my neck of the woods, we used Tabasco, Crystal, Louisiana, Texas Pete and Franks for decades. Then I tried this while working south of the border.

It is certainly not one of the “hottest” hot sauces out there if that is what you are looking for, but more often than not I do not want extreme heat. This one just tastes great. I do not even bother with the other 5 I mentioned now that I have discovered this stuff.

This is the correct answer, except I prefer the black label (extra spicy).

    It's cheap, too.

Have you tried it on raw oysters? If not, please do so. You will not be disappointed my friend.

I have indeed.  It's great.  I also keep a bottle on my desk that I take with me when I walk around the corner for an oyster poboy (which I think I will do in about 5 minutes).

  • Tabasco. The only other was Ortego sauce but that has been off the market for years sadly.

Is that different from Ortega "Taco" sauce?  Pretty sure that's still available.

Before this thread got bumped again, America's Test Kitchen did a taste-testing of hot sauces.  What's-her-name identified Frank's by name, and was her favorite, Tabasco came in second.  She about gagged on the third sauce, thought it was terrible, and it was Cholula; she was amazed as she buys it often.   =)
Might be kind've informative to taste what you have, in a blind tasting if possible.

When I was OIC for the Tech Engineering flight up at Grand Forks AFB, the cops always sold breakfast burritos on Fridays.  I brought in a bottle of hot sauce one week, and one of my Lieutenants (a line cook in New Orleans during college) bad-mouthed my choice and brought in Crystal.  The MSgt from Texas said, "Bullsh*t!" and brought in his favorite, and soon we had a nice collection of about 20 different brands; it was fun to try them all back-to-back.

Yes it is a different sauce. The one he was referring to was “Ortego”. It was discontinued years ago. It was made by Allen Ortego in Ville Platte, Louisiana.

I've tried 2 or 3 of the El Yucateco sauces and liked them. The black label is my favorite. Not sure, but I think I found them at walmart.

Yup that's the one. My father used to buy it by the case and got me hooked. He even tried to buy the recipe when they shut down but they wouldn't do it.

Thanks guys. I ended up getting hot sauce tray as a gift for Christmas last year. Each bottle gets hotter and hotter. I've had two out of the 5 and their pretty tame and not much flavor so far.

I picked these up a few weeks ago at a Gander that was closing. They were a buck and some change each. I'm part way into the jerk one. It packs a punch. I've liked it so far.

I like GB, Dexter Holland (lead singer of the Offspring) is the owner. Years ago I first started seeing it in Wahoo’s Fish Taco and Chronic Tacos here in Orange County, CA and now it’s all over and even sold in Walmart.

I’m into all kinds of hot sauces but for my go to, slather on a ton type sauce I usually go for Tapatio, Cholula, and Gringo Bandito.
