I headed down to Cabelas to check out the Yetis and walked out with a Cabela's Polar Cap 80qt. From what I could tell, it was by far a better constructed cooler than the Yeti in every way - more sturdy, built-in rotomolded handles, a pressure release valve and much, much beefier rubber straps.
The Cabela's is also MADE IN USA which the Yeti isn't. Most Yetis are made in the Phillipines and there's no indicator on the cooler where it's made so you never know. The only way to ensure you get one made in the USA is by special order direct from the manufacturer.
If you have a Cabelas near by definitely go by and check them out. They took top prize in a recent Field & Stream review of all top-end roto coolers and Cabeals came out the winner.
Yeti definitely has the smaller footprint. Mine’s sitting outside by the pool so space wasn’t much of an issue.South of Nashville - BGE XL - Alfresco 42" ALXE - Alfresco Versa Burner - Sunbeam Microwave -

I researched the 2 and bought an RTIC. The only thing that YETI had over RTIC is it seems to be a status symbol for many.
I just couldn’t get over the price difference and YETI 65 somehow holds less than the RTIC 65. YETI doesn’t hold ice any longer which is the main thing.
If YETI was over $100 better then I would have bought it. But I could not convince myself that it was. -
Pelican. Outstanding quality. No questions asked customer service. Lifetime warranty. In my experience the warranty has been similar to BGE, only that I've never had to prove anything is broken. I've called about the drain cap tether showing wear (thought it would have broken by now) they sent me a new one days later that has yet to be installed. Similar Situation with a gasket too. New cooler had a weld broken on the gasket. Had a crease in it from the factory that caused an edge to always curl under itself. One call and three days later I had a replacement. All free of charge.Pratt, KS

None of my RTIC coolers hold ice as long as my Coleman Extreme. You're right, there is always the theft consideration too.

This has been a really useful thread. I don't have any of the above and need a new cooler. There's too much OT on this site. I personally don't give a !@#$ what music you're listening to or what you're doing right now. No idea what that has to do with kamado cookery (although I heartily endorse the posting of additional playmate photos). But this is highly relevant, informative, and objective. Great reviews. Thanks, all!Virginia Beach, VA

That’s my take at least.. -
They had a really nice looking 80qt at Costco today for a measly $179. My 80qt from Cabelas was $349 and the Yeti $449. This is a steal by comparison. Pardon my weiner, I didn't know it was in the picture.

Well, no actually, I don't know much. Just learning. I just don't understand how it matters that you're listening to Roy Orbison or the Sex Pistols, or scratching your nuts before bed time, or changing the brake pads. So much of the front page has so little to do with the cookery. Excellent coolers, cool outdoor kitchen builds, etc., and other good stuff here. Related things, cool. But I don't care to read World Cup news at a BGE forum, or argue about the Supreme Court. My point was that the cooler discussion was refreshingly relevant. Confession -- I do occasionally, at the last minute, race into Bed Bath & Beyond on some critical shopping event (Xmas, Anniversary) but come away with nothing, and it's a gigantic headache. I'm as comfortable as my wife would be alone in Home Depot. But I do sit in the little massage chairs for a few minutes, until I get weird, impatient stares from the staff, or begin to worry about stinky feet. Yeah...middle age. So you got me there. Have a good weekend. They go fast...Virginia Beach, VA

You'll get it eventually. Hang around for awhile and it just happens.

That is all.
I keep my Rockwood lump stored in an RTIC, because I use my Yeti for food and beverages.
I store lump in the RTIC because it is just a bigger version of Tupperware, and it is more difficult to lose the lid.
You dont have to worry about things getting wet in a RTIC cooler, all the leaks take care of that problem.
Drys wet lump very fast with the air flow it provides. If your lump gets wet, put it in the RTIC on a windy day, drys right up. It is a dehydration machine, and you do not have to plug it in.

I know I have hit off topic on someone before using my phone and I meant to hit the like, after user pointed it out I quickly corrected so I understand how it happens. It just so happened I was trying to lure a friend into the world of green last night so I wouldn't be the one asked to make some ribs or pulled pork for every party I go to, and then start getting invited to parties from people I don't even know.
Side bar, this week alone I was asked to make pulled pork for sunday afternoon polo party at a friends house that I have not been to in 5 years (I still can say I have never seen polo), I turned down the invite, but wednesday I was asked to make chicken, ribs, and sausage for a party at a friends for the 4th, and today I was asked to make pork and beef ribs for a party for tonight and then I was asked to make brisket for a party tom night and believe it or not another butt on sunday now with some quick math that is 5 parties and 5 cooks in 1 week. I don't ever remember a week let alone a month where I was invited and attended 5 parties before the BGE.
Back to discussion so after telling him how great the forum is and all the help everyone offers each other and the banter he asked to see it and we logged on I was just navigating and he asked me what the scores meant, and that was the first time I even saw them as I never payed and mind to them and when I noticed the off topic, have to admit I was curious maybe someone didn't like my humor so I clicked it and was more upset that it was over something that wasn't even a insult or wise ass remark, (apparently I'm a big baby) hence me asking why. Now if someone would hit off topic on this banter (I know what I just did to myself) I would have laughed. I feel better now that I put that in writing.
The positive outcome is he is getting an egg (correction) is asking his wife for permission to get an egg.
The negative outcome is that I'm a fragile egg and now everyone knowsLong Island NY
