I have a buddy that has one he was making a project of. I'll see if he will part with it. He is a MB master guild so might be better if he finishes it first.

@westernbbq, We hosted Starfest in 2005, good Times. 90% of all automobile safety inovations were the result of Benz engineering. MB holds over 180k patents but did not patent any of the safety designs so the auto industry could use them. We got to view many of the old raw crash test videos as part of our early training. Some of my cameras and lenses, folding knives, tools, pipes, watches. I'd like to pass them down to my twin boys when they're older.

I have a bottle of scotch and bourbon that was bottled the month they're born, but I don't expect that to make it past their 18th bdays hahaha.

Well...since other posters haven't gotten flamed I'll go ahead and post my Bridge City tools. While these are first generation so I can't attest to second gen, but if any wood worker takes care of them then they should last MANY generations!

@westernbbq Friend of mine has something that I think, not sure, might meet your parameters.  I'll contact her....I know she's thinking about selling, she is an engineer and just got a brand new company truck.

I'll try to dig up a pic.

I think it might be a late 70s turbo diesel wagon.  I looked through my pics, can't find one.  I know she worked on it at my shop once, fixing some vacuum leak.   Pretty good shape, lots of chrome, roof rack and I think I remember she was thinking about around $6K.

I'll get more info in the next couple days.

Funny, a friend of ours had a German exchange student over here a while back, she could not believe the fuss we make over Mercedes Benz. She said back home they are "rubbish trucks and taxis."
I travel to Köln regularly, and I kind of see her point.
I saw more Audi, Volkswagon, Porsche, BMW, and others for personal vehicles than we did Mercedes. The cost there, is not like it is here, in most cases, doing the math on the euro to dollar exchange, it was less in Germany.
We have clients that purchased them in Germany and had them shipped back.
We are an OEM supplier to all those I had listed previosly, with an extremely tight relationship, where we do research and development, and keep MBs in our labs for testing.
    Crazy.
I will say this; their SUV, similar to the Land Rover, is much more expensive, but totally badass, and worth it.

Ya I can echo this. My brother minored in german in college and spent 6 months over there. He travels back usually annually to visit friends and he told me MB were crazy less expensive over there. He usually always goes and visits their HQ and tours some of the plants. He was telling me he could buy a brand new off the assembly line E-Class for about $15K-20K less than he would pay here. Even factoring in shipping it back it was substantially cheaper. He nearly pulls the trigger every time he goes over there.

I would believe the average Mercedes sold in Germany has far fewer options than those sold in the US, but I don't buy they are cheaper there.  There is a huge VAT, for one.   You should ask him for some examples.

In my demise I've arranged for my wife (or mistress) to post here on my behalf with photos of said Leatherman.  It was primarily used to clip my toenails. Will ship for free if anyone wants to inherit it.

Well the most recent example I can give you was from about 6 months ago or so when he showed me where he could buy an E300 with Premium 1 Interior package and panoramic sunroof which has an MSRP of around 65K and they told him the all in cost would be around $48K plus there was a charge of around $2,000 to ship it. Here in the states that car sells for around 62K if you can get a good deal. He could take delivery to his driveway in about 9 weeks. So in that circumstance he saves about 14K. There are a couple other examples he's shown me before also. He was looking into getting a C-Class Cabriolet a couple years ago and I think his all in for that one was around $42K plus $2000 shipping. So ya, you can get them for a lot cheaper. This is why pretty much every single time he visits Germany he get an itch to buy one. But how many people are gonna bother with flying to Germany to buy a car. My guess is very few.

Nonsense.  This is super easy to look up.  The cars have less options to start with in Europe, keep that in mind. I just looked up the C300 price in Germany and it starts at 44k euros ($51K), US it starts at $40k.

Maybe buying a used car.  When we lived there, we bought local used cars but ordered new ones from the US.

At my age I pretty much expect any purchase (underware possibly excepted) to last the rest of my lifetime.  Had to put in a new HVAC system in March and when the salesman said it came with a 10 year warranty I replied, "That's life-time for me."

If you export brand new, the VAT (19%) will be refunded. Transatlantic shipping isn't bad if you get someone who consolidates into 40 foot boxes. If you import, do you get done for US sales tax or any duty?
