    Rev. Graham would not approve of your reading choices!

    I grew up fire and brimstone southern baptist. Christian schools, church twice every Sunday and every Wednesday night (that made twice on Wednesday’s too during the school year as Wednesday was “chapel”at school), Christian summer camp and many tent revivals in the summer as well.

    Billy Graham was a huge part of my life growing up. Saw him every time he came to Dallas. It was like The Stones were in town for my fundy parents!

    While my views on Rev. Graham have certainly changed over the years, I do understand the fielty some feel for him. I am the only member of my family to escape the fundy Christian belief system. Holidays with my fam are a hoot :)

    it took them 20 years but they have stopped telling me (and my kids) that We are all are going to hell every Christmas Day so that’s nice. They still believe it but they have learned to work around it in a passive aggressive way :)

    Godspeed Billy! I did cop an over-the-shirt feel of a lovely 8th grade lady classmate in 1983 under the bleachers while you were yelling at us at one of our school “field trips” so it’s all good!

    Note to those sending your kids to private Christian schools: the first time I drank, smoked weed, went past 2nd base, and many other things were at First Baptist Academy in Dallas Tx. Turns out many of the kids are there for a reason :)

    Ha ha. It was like a master level class in doing bad $hit. I had never seen any of that stuff before 7th grade at FBA. Turns out parents were using FBA as rehab for their little troubled kids. Sheltered kids like me were like wtf is this!!!??? It was glorious.

    We had to remove my son from a Christian grade school because it was a dumping ground for kids with ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia etc. who couldn't hack it in the public school system.  Practicing "Grace" isn't always a good thing.

    Grandson also, but he got into a private school and graduated. It's a long haul but worth it when they get that diploma.

    There may be some truth to the old saying that the preacher's son always ha the best weed.

    Mine are both gainfully employed adults. Good thing I didn’t have to count on grace to get them there.

    FBA= First Baptist Academy.

    Our school cheer was FBA- All the way! Many of the high school girls took it to heart :)

    I had been expelled by then so no dice for little Centex.
    The babtists in my town by junior high had to take an abstinence pledge that they wouldn’t have premarital sex. I don’t think any of them graduated high school still a virgin.

    I can’t help but think that all the negative attention given to sex by the church and youth leaders had the opposite of the intended effect

    I had to take that pledge. It worked all the way up until a girl said “ok”.

    I will say this for Billy Graham: he, and his movement, have always kept their financial books open for anyone's perusal.  I'd like to see any other televangelist, religious outreach, mormon, catholic, moonie, branch davidian, or any other religious organization do the same.

    Right.  That Sherry account was always showing up in threads to troll me, typically ones where i was already getting into it with other folks already.  No thanks.  I’ve got better things to do than troll myself on a bbq forum.
