While p!ssed off with bitness travel...I hate a thief...

.... I have been pissed off all day. My checked bag failed to follow me home on a direct flight. This after actually seeing it sitting on the base of the conveyor belt before I boarded a commuter jet. No transfers, a straight shot.....no bag. I patiently delt with major baggage claim incompetence while filling the missing bag paper work. To make matters worse, I had hung my car keys on the hook inside a side pocket of the Ospre bag. Wife had to bring me her key in order to drive my car home.

At this point, not happy, but not yet approaching a state of anger. I was assured the bag would be delivered later in the evening after arriving on a later flight...well it didn’t....had bet the wife and won that one.

Today the bag was deliverd to the house mid morning. No service or delivery type vehicle. The delivery person drives up in a Nissan Altama....with a car load of passengers.  An old lady came to the door, carrying someone else’s bag. After looking at the tag, and putting up a mild argument I was able to describe my bag. She went back to the trunk and brought mine to the door.

I Thanked her, she left and i Opened it up to remove my dirty laundry. I found my keys and meal receipts had been removed from a the side pocket. Now it is possible the airline employees removed it...but also possiable the delivery folks have them....know where I live, and possiabley have my house, and both automible keys. I want call the airline by name but I am super pissed at American Airlines.

I will be filing a claim with the airline with no guarantee I will ever see a dime. I am looking at about $700 to replace the key fabs....Plus another couple bills to re key the house. Spent the afternoon fileing a police report.

Thievding sucks.

Well that was a painful lesson.  Is it possible that they are trying to use the meal receipts for identity theft purchases?

That royally sucks. I do everything I can when travelling to not check a bag. If that means my gym clothes stay at home, so be it.

Yeah.....canceled the Corp card. Only starts a chain reaction of issues with expense reports and and getting a new card synced up. Did I mention I hate a thief?

I'm with Dwayne on this one.  When going to India I even went carry on the whole way.  I am, by nature, a non-trusting person who also has questionable luck.

I normally carry a computer back pack which I hook my keys in...always having it with me. Traveling for 4 days, I checked it as the commuter does not have overhead room, and they bus you out to the plane. Straight shot, I went for the convienent approach....I made the mistake of not removing the keys...stupid move.

Possible motive for early retirement? I hear the home inspection business is pretty lucrative...

Did you photograph the car that delivered your bag?     Or get its license #?

Who did airline say was delivering your bag?   Do THEY even know?

That is ok.  Home inspectors have zero liability for anything.  Show up, see if a house exists, send report.

That is just plain Bullshid. I hate that for you Robin. I agree, I hate a cowardly thief. Ask me for anything and I will help. Steal from me, and you better hope I never catch up to you.
I would take this up the ladder, Robin. This is not right..
    Hoping it works out.

I was on a conference call when they delivered. While recognizing it didn’t seem right, I was also focusing on the call. I spoke with the airport police. He was looking into the service (vetted by the airline and not the airline). He is the one filing the report. The log was signed with scribble and unrecognizable.

Nothing but clothing and toiletries goes in my checked bag. I trust no baggage handler.

I too had been the victim a few years ago of baggage handling thieves. They stole about $500.00 worth of stuff from my suit case, which was later recovered, damaged and destroyed.
The stuff was stolen at Chicago's Midway, and the police busted a group of baggage handlers that had been involved.
My stuff was destroyed in the thieves attempt to get rid of the evidence, I was told.
I feel for you brother. There are many folks out there that do not report missing things, and just add it to the price of transportation.
    Glad you stepped up.

That is terrible, Robin. I fly a good bit for work as well and went on a bad stretch with luggage. Nothing like this though. I will say AA is literally the worst. What makes me so mad about them is people refuse to pay the checked baggage fee at the kiosk, the ln get to the gate and the same announcement every time- full flight if you have rolling bag it will be tagged. If you pay attention- most have no business trying to carry on bags that big when you have a very small rolling bag and are forced to check at gate. It is so irritating. I never have that problem on Delta. But where we live we are forced to go to Charlotte for direct fights at a normal time of day. And guess what- it’s a damn AA hub. I feel for you brother.

Got a good buddy (retired) who works part time in baggage / ramp to stay busy. He has provided me contact info for the highest AA manager at the airport. I am on a mission....and still p!ssed about it this morning. Locks on home being changed today.

  • Go ahead and deactivate your garage door openers as well until you can figure out the car locks.

You don’t want them unlocking your car just so they can snatch your door opener.

Sucks man. Thievery is only acceptable when it’s funny. Like to your friend’s remote control batteries before the big game starts.

Echoing the above, thieves are about as low-life as you can get.  I hope you get some sort of action and a small measure of success in getting to the bottom of this.

Unfortunately that won't help with your recovery issues.

Friggin scum right there.  And it sounds like a fairly broad ring of players.

Had a 3 wood and a putter stolen out of my golf bag once.  Strange combination of clubs, but whatever.  Delta made it right.

ugggggh.  hate this.  lost my keys on a trip in November to a smash and grab, left my backpack in the car (behind/under backseat, tinted windows) for a few min while I ran into a store.  parked up front.  had to buy a new key and have the whole truck recoded, etc.  expensive pain in the asz.

didn't have to rekey house because we switched the front door to keyless a couple of years ago, so no longer carry a house key.  something to consider if you're going to have to rekey the house.  we didn't get an internet aware one, just simple code entry.
    Love you bro!

Pause before condemning the airline in these situations, the folks at TSA have a very well deserved rep for sticky fingers, amongst other things.
