Aside from making a sizable donation, thier actions following the Hyden Mine Disaster, lead the way for others to step up, across all communities, and all genres of the music world. The Band did a charity concert donating all proceeds to the families....

The 107 relatives who lost their fathers, brothers, sons, uncles, cousins, fiancees, and loved ones were helped tremendously by the movement of The Band.

My favorite concert of my life.
Love the story Ron, love The Band.....hate senseless death. A shame things have to happen to drive change.

Not my first, but it nearly was. Willie Nelson was one of my Dad's favorites. I got us tickets one year for his Christmas gift. Still one of my best memories with him.

Incredible.  That is when Joe joined the band.  If you recall, Eddie Money did two warm up songs before Bob Seager warmed up.  Was truly epic.  They did the whole album plus Joe's Life's been good.  Epic.

1976 was in the coliseum, indoors and that is when I saw them. JW was with them then, too. It was the encore when they did RMW.
I was out of the country, in 78. I was confused about the other groups you mentioned.
Either way, I am old, my memory is fuzzy....

Yep, my original recall.  Thanks for the assurance my friend.  It was the first concert ever at riverfront.  Glad we shared the event brother.

I did not see them outdoors in Cincinnati, I saw them at Riverfront Coliseum, in 1976, a couple years before Brent saw them in the first concert ever, in 1978, outdoors, at Riverfront Stadium in Cicinnati.
The Riverfront Coliseum was the same place that lead to people losing their lives in the rush to get General Admission, with the Who, a couple years later.

Great thread. Lots to be jealous of here but @YukonRon wins it. Never got to see the Band but grateful to have seen Levon. My humble beginnings were at the 2nd Lollapalooza, summer '92. Pearl Jam, Ministry, Chili Peppers, among others. All star grunge...

I think my first big concert was probably the Scorpions in Germany back in the late '70s.

Good knowledge there.  Santa Clara - at the fair?  I saw them in SJ at the Civic Auditorium, maybe a couple of years later.

I had definitely seen live music before this but the first big concert I remember going to was the Baltimore stop on the first Summer Sanitarium tour (2000) featuring Kid Rock, Powerman 5k, Korn, System of a Down, and Metallica.  The concert was held at the brand new Ravens Stadium and my buddy's parents drove us down from the suburbs an hour north.  We loved this type of music at the time, especially System of a Down and Metallica so the show blew our minds, it felt like Metallica played for 2 hours straight.
