    Glad the prognosis is good.
Scratch that pup behind the ears, on top of the head and under the chin for 10 minutes every hour you are awake for all 14 days he has that collar on. He deserves it!

Thanks @Dobie. I honestly never thought there was such a thing as a vet ophthalmologist. Very lucky to have one so close by.

From my heart, I will tell you, I absolutely know where you are, and am very thankful that you have more time with your GR. YOU ARE A WONDERFUL PET TO YOUR GOLDEN.
The foresight you were so smart to use, ensures Duke will be able to enjoy the years he has left.
Being a former owner of a Golden, I agree and promise anyone that decides to bring one into their life, you will never, the rest of your life, have a more protective and devoted companion, as long as you may live.
I lost mine on Christmas eve, 6 years ago, upon returning from my overseas deployment.
I have not had the heart, or courage, to replace her, even until this day.
Thank you for taking care of the best friend you and your family will ever have.
    Bless you brother. You know.

I also almost didn't click on this, expecting the worst. Glad I did and your puppy is lucky to have such a loving family. Not much in life worse than a sick furbaby.

  • Duke is lucky he has you for a dad! I will be pulling for him. I feel sorry for people that don't get to experience the love and joy a dog can bring.

Ron, your words ring true. I remember having a conversation with you at the first BB about your Golden. It's easy to understand how they can break your heart. Nothing is guaranteed so we do what we can do, spoil them rotten, and try our best to return their faithfulness.

That's a great story. I too almost didn't open the thread, and even then was hesitant to read....

Hope he has a speedy recovery!!!

Thanks y'all! He did good last night; wanted to come upstairs with us so I carried him up. Had to escort him down the stairs this am so he wouldn't get his cone stuck and tumble down. He's already eating better so we're optimistic.

@NC_Egghead whenever you post I first look at your photo and smile at your sweet dog. I'm so glad the treatment worked and your best friend is doing well. Dogs are the best. (Well, our dog was the actual best. RIP Hayley.)

@NC_Egghead - wonderful outcome and post!  Our two black labs bring so much love and life into our house even at 10 and 12. As they get older those bad days get sadder - couldn't be happier that Duke had such a positive result and that you went the extra steps!  All cone heads deserve special attention and love - and scratches and hugs.

Our previous Saint Bernard had entropic eyes and like yourself, never realized that dogs had eye specialists.
There are sometimes I wish they could talk and just tell us why they don't feel good.

    All the best.

Thanks @da87! Black labs are really good dogs too. Sounds like you've got your hands full; with both good and bad days. All we can do is try our best to take care of them the same way they've taken care of us. He's definitely getting extra scratches inside his cone!

Thanks Robin! Those pictures are so typical of what Goldens are all about! Your daughter has a beautiful dog and I'm sure she's going to enjoy it. I used to be greeted everyday when I got home by Duke and his red ball, ready to go. We had to start hiding it from him a couple of years ago. Just like us as we get older; the mind says yes but the body says no.
