Goldens are our favorites. We lost two within a few months of each other. One to old age the other to cancer and the bought another and another. Our older one is in the golden cancer study group and we are hoping they find some cures for goldens getting cancer.   Yours is very beautiful and looks like it is treated as a child like we treat ours.   Hope all is well soon

  • Right on DUKE!!  Long may you run old fella.

I am proud to be owned by a 14 year old black lab who has about a million miles of hunting, hunt test and field trial experience on his odometer.  He still has the heart and drive of a dog half his age.  He will see a couple of days in the duck blind this year when the weather is right and I know we can get a good pile of ducks for him so has more memories to cherish as he sits by the fire.

Hope Duke can warm your hearth and hearts for a few more years to come.
  • Good dog!! :)
Thanks for looking in @MaskedMarvel. Yes, he's a good boy!

I like the puppy idea; the older can show the younger the ropes and the younger will energize the older. If you had a +15 y/o Shepard, you were definitely doing something right to keep him healthy!

Black labs are great dogs too! Sounds like he's leading a full life; maybe it's the hunting that keeps him going so strong. We appreciate the well wishes!

it really takes some of the curse off puppy training. at 15 the shepard was getting lost in the yard, 0.1 acres, one tree. got the pup and he snapped out of it, made just over 18 before it was time. last dog though died too soon, raising a pup from scratch for me is hell, but necessary ;) my britt turned 6 this summer, im already thinking its time to add the second, the ducks and geese in the yard wont stand a chance. if your dog perks up in a few weeks, i wouldnt think twice about it. my shepard pretended to hate the pup, but if i left the room he would go into play mode

Thank you sir!  She is my first Golden and won't be my last.  Just the absolute best disposition.  My son pictured, 15 year old daughter and 21 year old college son all refer to her as their "sister".  One more pic from when she was just a pup.  I became her "mother" when we brought her home and she had to be by my side constantly.  Here I am sitting on the toilet.  That is unconditional love!!

18 years for any dog is outstanding! We actually had a small "test" of introducing Duke to a "puppy" this summer. My son was dog sitting an 8 month old Great Pyrenees for a friend while we were at the beach. Maybe she was too far out of the puppy stage for it to be effective but it took a while before Duke would even tolerate her. Lucy would get into her play mode and get into Dukes grill and he would just growl at her. She didn't understand because she plays a lot with some young labs at her house. It could have also been that this was the start of his ailment and he just didn't feel like engaging. Duke has always been fine with his cousin, a beagle, but he's know him since he was a puppy. Here's Duke and Lucy chillaxin' at the beach. She's a beautiful dog!

All the best. Have a 13 year old Standard and she nor I get around all that well at an advanced age. Really, all the best to you both.
