  • Mondavi and their Woodbridge label usually solid, Louis Martini Cabernets are good if you can find them, Costco has some decent wines, check the ratings from wine spectator and also look up the info on the vintages, such as 1970 was an awesome year for California Cabernets (just means I'm old) lots of good non vintage NV, stuff now days.
Just FWIW California Gamays and French Beaujolais are going to be lighter and recruiter than Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir Zinfandel or Syrah are.
Chilean reds offer good bang for the buck as do some Spanish Malbecs and Australian and South African reds.
    Good luck and cheers

@Jeremiah - I'm with you regarding the comforts of beer.  There's something about a cold beer on a hot day that wine will never approach.  So, torpedo the wine, beer for the win.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

    I'm guessing you'd use a MK48 for that cap. :)

Would be overkill but that would definitely get the job done.  You have got to have some military ordnance background to toss that out here...

Yes Sir. Got transferred from the Med to support MK48 competition between Westinghouse and Gould Systems waaaaay back in '72. Worked on the eventual winning team.

Dammit man. Don't let death stand in your way!  I'd have partaken in a beer with Nichole no matter the hour.

C'mon man! You were this close? Y'all could have stayed here for a night. Could have been less dead and had that nacho.

That's a nice bottle. Could go another 3 or for years but will be nice. Let us know how it compares to the boxed stuff. ;).  Enjoy.

Rigging the 1997 POS Expedition for a camping trip, this weekend. Leaving either late tonight or very early Thursday morning, heading to the Red River Gorge, to do some hiking and climbing.
I am taking the MiniMax, a bunch of freezer food, and just a few bottles of wine (6-8).
    It should be awesome.

That week was kind of hazy, but, If I remember correctly, Robin and Pattie brought some wine in when they visited, and they brought some most excellent bottles. It is still somewhat of a blur, but, we enjoyed the week, our dear friends, and of course the wine. The week went by too fast.
Like I have said before, the best wine, is the wine shared with friends. That wine, was about the best I had ever had.

With our recent Costco membership we’ve notice every time we are there people are buying wine by the case there.  The wife and I will occasionally have a glass, but only keep a bottle or two on hand at the house.  For beginners, I’m not sure if my wife likes reds/whites/dry, etc.

What should we start to grab to try out and build a knowledge from?  Open to suggestions from what would be good to start with, to what are some of your favorites available there, and just standard regular drinking wines.  Thanks in advance for any and all input.  Looking to start grabbing a couple of bottles each time we’re there.
