Soapstone disaster

My first use of my new 1 3/16" thick soapstone... seasoned it. Put it on the bge set up indirect running at about 500-550 deg. The salmon steaks were amazing. I heated the stone with the egg... let it cool with the egg. Go out tonite to clean it and you guessed...i had 2 instead of one! Wth did I do wrong? Perhaps it will be cast iron next time for me

I don't understand the appeal of the soapstone. People are going crazy for it on the Kamado Joe facebook group, but it looks like it only brings heartache. Either its busted in shipping, or breaks after a few uses, I can't see it being any better than cast iron.Kansas City, KansasSecond hand Medium BGE, Second hand Black Kamado Joe Classic, Second hand Weber Kettle, Second hand Weber Smokey Mountain

Soapstone is like a platesetter. Sooner or later, it will break.
