First few days owning lg BGE (smoked chicken & boston butts)

Finally convinced the wifey to let me buy myself a BGE for my birthday.  I've had a gas cabinet smoker for the last 5 years, this is quite the upgrade...

Got the egg home and put together around 4pm, after loving on it for a little while, I decided, due to time, my first cook would be a smoked whole chicken.  Used mesquite wood chips and smoked indirect at 275 for about 3 hours.

Next night, I grilled a pork tenderloin w/ direct heat.  Came out great, too hungry to take pics.

Then, for Sat (my actual birthday), I put 2 boston butts on the egg when I got home from the bar Friday night around 3AM.  I brined them earlier that day for about 14hrs in just salt, water, and molasses.

I was up until about 4AM trying to get the temp to hold.  Used apple wood chunks, indirect, finally got the temp to 250 to hold for about 30 min, so I that's when I put the butts on and went to bed.

Woke up at 10am to my wife saying the temp was going down (She's a keeper).  A cold front had come through, so I guess that is why, I was able to adjust and get it back to 250 pretty quick.  At about 4pm, internal temp hit 180, I wrapped them in foil, raised the egg to 280, in about 2 1/2 hrs, they hit 200 internal temp, I took them off and put in a cooler with towels for about 45 minutes.  By then the party goers were getting hungry, so I fed them.

It turned out really great, the brine really helped keep it super moist and flavorful.  Next time I'll get home earlier and start it earlier.  Like a lot of others have said, this forum helped me pull the trigger on getting the egg and so far I'm really glad I did!  Looking forward to reading about and sharing cooks with everyone.
