You sure know how to hurt a guy.

But it even if I don't win I'm sure I'll get some kinda participation ribbon to put on my wall with all the others.

So, if we put a beverage table across the creek and just wade across any time we're thirsty - that would work?
That's the reason they gave you that advanced degree, not just because you could pick out really good beer.
Alternatively, I could claim one of the eggs at the Inn for the fest and make the attendees wade across the creek to eat my food....

I loaded up at Costco and HEB yesterday. Wings, beef tenderloin (for sliders), pork loin (also for sliders - at $1.99/pound I couldn't pass it up. I got 2), and beer. My HEB beer/wine guy led me to some interesting Belgian and Belgian-style stuff that I've never had - plus I'll bring some of the usual suspects.

i guess we all need to bring our Yeti (or equivalent) cups for the actual fest.  I think I have enough for both parties and the fest. We'll see.

@Photo Egg, I'll be there without my son for the first time.  As he typically does 90% of the work, any help will be welcomed.

@foghorn- some of the HEB's do a fine job with their beer purchasing. My local one beats Spec's by a mile and then some when it comes to Belgian and other brews.

Yes, they do.  My HEB beer/wine guy is great.  He's been there 10 years.  He has a degree from Johns Hopkins in applied mathematics - just decided he likes beer/wine/food better than mathematics although numbers do come into play at times in pricing/supply, etc.  And he answers texts and emails to help with planning.

As a result, last weekend as I drove back into town from a meeting, based on a couple of emails, he had 40 bottles of beer and wine waiting for me in a basket so I could pick it up on the way to a party.  I was literally in the store for no more than 10 minutes.  It's hard not to get spoiled with this sort of service and great meat prices, etc.

It is not to be for me this year. My wife setup something for my 40th a week late with some friends. We'll be here http://dansatgreenhills.com/ on the 11th. I'm sure I'd rather be in Salado...

@DMW, that is unfortunate. Hopefully most of the usual suspects will show up.

I've already resigned myself to the fact that @20stone will give @caliking the chicken wing trophy because those two are thick as thieves. Caliking may even be importing voters from his native land of South Carolina.

And then during the actual fest they'll each have some complex cockamamie recipe to cook that will only be ready as the fest is winding down.

I won't lie. All of this taking place without Sheriff @Mickey riding around on his golf cart truly worries me.

@Foghorn - it will be fair. You will have as good a chance at losing as anyone else will.

And believe it or not, @20stone actually reigned me in this time re: our cooks. Usually it's the other way around. We're making something new, so hopefully it'll turn out .

Thanks for the good wishes. Wish you could be there, but preserving/regaining health (which is the opposite of what we will be doing) takes priority.

Sad to hear that some of the regulars can't make it to Salado.

I guess that leaves more of @Foghorn 's beer for me...

There's going to be plenty of it.  Some of which I have never tried before but was recommended by my HEB beer guy.

I MAY have bought too much food as well.  I picked up wings for the wingoff and as I rubbed them last night I realized I had about 160... so I put half in the freezer.  I bought meat last weekend at Costco and when we calculated out how many slider bites we think we can make out of it - and we're looking at about 300 for the fest and another 60 or more for the after party...

@caliking and l will probably be passed out by the time @Mickey drags his tired, salty, sunburned a$$ over to the Inn Saturday evening.
