    'Cask Strength' is used by some as a means of branding a higher ABV than standard (UK standard is 40 ABV). It's usually tweaked to give a consistent ABV, so some dilution. Natural cask strength is as it comes from the barrel and is variable. My current bottle of Caol Ila is 61.6% and at 60+% you need some dilution.

    I like Laphroig, the Quarter Cask is nice if you get it over your side.

    That's punny.  His basement, as I imagine it at least, is rows and rows of hot sauces, many turning brown from age, and an Imelda Marcos number of platform shoes.

    This story kinda fits.  When I was in college, I would visit my grandparents from time to time.  My Grandpa liked having a beer or two with me so I would show up with a six pack.  One time I brought Bud Light and he was not happy with my choice.  As I recall, he said, "If I wanted to drink watered down beer, I can go to the sink and add the water myself."

    I went back to the store and bought some "real" beer.  Budweiser.

    Bought my Uncle a case of Old Mil NA on accident after a long day in the woods.  We used it up for brats....caught **** about that for years. Lol 

    Can't do BL anymore.

    Travel to Scotland and you will be told otherwise. A few drops of water in scotch is the norm. Not neat. Not with ice.

    But I thought one of the goals of distillation was to reduce the water content and increase alcohol percent- so separation is therefore necessary.
