PSA - start shopping for TGD NOW!!!

We live near Peoria, IL - a community of 120k within a SMSA of 300k. Several large grocery chains are present so price and service competition is name of the game. Today my wife went shopping at our large Kroger store for ingredients for TGD. Shelves and bins were noticeably barren. She had to buy a can of pumpkin pie mix that was 3 times the size she wanted; instant pudding was double the size wanted and was the store brand; only button mushrooms left were pound boxes; fresh raw oysters were already sold out so she brought home 2 cans of canned ones; Kool-Whip right out of the freezer was thawed not frozen in the least; and the crowd was huge. My advice is GET SHOPPING SOON!!!

Ron, is it senior day? My wife avoids the Kroger on senior day, it's a zoo!
Either way buddy, it sounds like a few extra sit ups for you this winter! Big portions! Ha Ha

Maybe Peoria has the least amount of procrastinators. I have never seen that before. I get a kick out of the people who are looking for Christmas gifts on Christmas eve, or in the greeting card aisle at 10 a.m. on Mother's Day.

Ha were the caned oysters the smoked ones in mustart sauce? They are great on a Ritz.

Senior day is Wednesday - today is Friday. BTW not that I didn't believe my wife, but  I just went there myself 3 hours after she encountered the mob and it was still crowded! I swear it was like the stock boys were on strike, but then out of 18 check outs I noticed 4 check outs were being manned by assistant managers and a fifth assistant was overlording the 6 self service checkouts! Busy Busy Busy

No, these are in clear plastic containers: 8 oz standard "wild caught shellfish - product of USA" brand is Kellum in Weems, VA.

I used TGD as I was being lazy rather then spelling out thanksgiving day.

 SMSA is short for Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area

I used to always go to my grandparents for Thanksgiving. After they all passed away, Thanksgiving is at my parents house and my in laws. I'm not ready for that torch to be passed.

It has a way of sneaking up on you, and you will handle it just fine. Took about three years after both (SWMBO and me) of our parents had passed before we really got it that going home is just not possible anymore.
Grandkids make up for it!

I guess the transition for us wasn't as noticeable as it was always a family tradition that everybody participated by bring dishes, plus we all pitched in for the clean up. No body sat their butts down in front of the TV until the dining room and kitchen were spic & span! Worked for us!

Burdening one couple with all that preparation just doesn't even seem fair.

That reminds me of watching football with my grandfather on Sundays. The women were in the kitchen and a kid would spill something and my grandfather would say "don't worry about it." Of course, we never moved a muscle to help.

I still don't know what TGD means, or SMSA, or (from another thread) "CPB going on tonight."  I read the thread, STILL don't know what CPB is, for crying out loud.

What's with all of the acronyms?  Is it REALLY that difficult to type the blasted thing out so everybody might have a clue what you're talking about?

See above for TGD (Thanksgiving Day) and SMSA.   CPB looks like Costco Packer Brisket.  But if you don't get it, it's not a really a BFD.

And we appreciate it!  In fact, I'd like to see everyone under the age of 60 banned on senior day.  You whippersnappers go play your video games or even better, play outside for a change.  Let the grownups have one day we can walk around and shop at our pace w/o a bunch of rugrats screaming and running into us.  And get a job.  Daggone kids!
