I'm heading to Vegas in the morning to watch the NASCAR race. Who do you root for? I have always been a Jeff Gordon fan, so I'm going with his heir apparent, Chase Eliott.

I'm a Gordon fan as well but as last years season was winding down, I made the switch to another HMS driver. Kasey Kahne is the driver I root the most for.

    Same here...

I went to this race one year, nice facility. I had a hotel give me a room for the weekend and tickets to all the races (Prepaid vacation :s). I left very little money at their casino that visit (probably not what they had in mind) and never heard form them again. Thats one way to stop the emails...

Hadn't cared for Nascar in a while.  Was a Dale Sr. fan.  After his passing it was whoever was at RCR and liked Tony Stewart too.  Just don't follow it anymore.

Yup. NASCAR seems to have gotten as pansy ass as country music. Haven't watched it in years.

I am not a fan of NASCAR or most any automobile race, in general.
Several years ago, I worked for a company that sponsored a few race teams. We did it for a couple of reasons, one was marketing during the rise in popularity of the sport, and the other, was to do research on our product. I spent one entire season on the circuit. It was the first time I had been to a NASCAR race, and it was sensory overload.
The first three races were as cool as anything I had ever done, the people, the event, the noise, the parking lots, were all first experience to me.
Races 4 through the end of the season could not end fast enough for me, the people, the event the noise, the parking lots, got old.
I have been offered similar gigs, and have turned them down. I have not attended another NASCAR race since, nor do I even watch them on TV. I have better things to do. To me, it is nothing more than drivers in shiny cars, making left turns, around a sort of circular track in most cases. You can't be a fan of a sport unless you appreciate it more than that. I just do not.
For those of you that do, have fun this season. Hope it works out for your driver or team.

I have been to four races all of them in Vegas. I enjoy it quite a bit.  I'm guessing since I only go to one a year, the experience is more enjoyable.

^^^ Ron I guess I understand... Im from NASCAR country. I just raced Dale Jarrett today down I-40 in his Range Rover. I don't know a damn thing about stick and ball... but I do enjoy NASCAR. I have been to more races than I can count and (to me) that is some of the best fun imaginable. I really appreciate your company investing in my sport and allowing me to enjoy one of my favorite pastimes. I hate that it didn't work out for you but I appreciate you giving it your best shot. Thanks I hope NASCAR has a wonderful season and everyone is safe in this sport.
    @pineyRacing DJ is pretty cool.
One thing I will always remember is the fans. The level of dedication to the sport, driver and teams seemed unmatched in that era. I had full time access to the pits and garage. The fans would beg for pieces of the cars. Used tires, busted sheet metal, lug nuts, you name it. In the late 90s, I was working the fall race in Atlanta, the Purolater, I think. It was the race when Gordon almost lapped the field and actually backed it off so the other chevrolets could catch up. Anyway, the team I was working with at that time, would use lug nuts, like they use beads in NOLA during Mardis Gras. Amazing what they would for LUG NUTS! It got a little crazy at times. For Sure.

Vegas is a great event, IMO - hate the restrictor tracks and I don't watch them. The bus ride thru Nellis was interesting to say the least.
Have always been an M&M fan until cry baby Kyle sat in it, talented, but can never forgive him destroying that guitar. Since then Matt Kenseth has been my favourite.

Enjoy the race, weather looks OK!

Never been to a NASCAR race, but I've raced 24 Hours of LeMons.  And I hit 150mph chasing a 'stang the other day going to work.

I find if you race on a track, it takes about two months before you stop driving your street car like you're in a race.   Then settle down to just finding open lanes and opening it up (sans jockying for pole position)

I've been to Kansas and went to Indy a couple of years ago for Nascar. Indy was awesome. Not a great track to watch a race but the track itself has an awesome vibe to it. Lots of history. The infield museum is super cool. Friends have been bugging me to ride with them to Michigan this year for a race. I wish Minnesota or a surrounding state had a track

First night in Vegas was a success! Nephew was playing roulette (I never play roulette), so I sat down, on the second roll I put $5 on 24 and hit it! Then won another $200 playing poker!  Hitting the golf course this morning and then race tomorrow!

I live pretty close to the Talladega track. Many years ago the interstate would have heavy traffic from Rv's the days preceding a race and the week after. Now I don't even notice a race is coming. There is virtually no increase in traffic. This illustrates how many fewer people the track is attracting for the races.

This is a direct result of stopping the nudity and partying in the infield. There use to be thousands of us who went more for what went on in the infield than on the track. Once clothing became mandatory, most of us stopped going.

@SDH - when you went, did they have restrictor plates? Any track over 1.5 mile is a joke with plates, IMO.
As @GregW says, Talladega is one of those "Super" speedways that are really not much better than the Cars ride at Disney - no wonder he doesn't see much traffic.
(Granted my first NASCAR race was the 1969 marathon at Daytona....)

I had the good fortune of getting to attend Talladega many times before the advent of restrictor plates. However I did keep going well into the late 90's. I don't care for the RP's myself.
