OT-Looking for a place to land for a few years-OT

Sunday night and the campaign trail is in full swing.  I am looking to see if @Skiddymarker's expanded neighborhood holds promise for a respite.  Lived for a few years in the Seattle area so a short hop up I-5 may be the last best hope I have given the way things are going.  I know it's not Friday but the apparent choices really don't leave much to be desired.

Oh man, you don't really watch that stuff do you?  Watching campaigning stuff 24/7 will tighten up your sphincter muscle.  Heading north won't really solve anything ... our Canadian friends elected Rob Ford.

Yeah but that was Toronto-and no I don't watch much, give the Rep debates around 15-30 mins (just to confirm the same old stories).  I can't watch any programming with the **** so that takes out the Dem deal and any news show where she is being interviewed.  Friggin sad state of affairs-

Edit:  the above word "bi---" is edited automatically by the system and appears as ****.  Who knew?

But if I stay in the US. I'm hoping Trump gets elected and Kasitch is his running mate. So when he goes off the deep end at least we will we have someone who doesn't know enough to get us in trouble.

I'm sorry, but I'm confused.  It sounds like you are looking to move your residence because politicians are campaigning?  Is that correct?  if so, may I inquire why.

I live where I live because I like living where I am.  Campaign ads and signs won't make me leave my home.

Dorothy was right, "There's no place like home".  I've lived for > 20 years in my current house and I expect my son will inherit it when I die.  I laugh when I get ads from Realtors telling me now is the time to sell.  I know they are wrong as I'm not dead yet, so it isn't time to sell.

@Zmokin - not to speak for the Cap but I believe he is saying that the campaign delegates are a freakin joke and he could be looking for a place of residence that won't be effected by whichever joker comes out on top.

I'm not affected, I ignore it. I vote every time. I cast my ballot which to me is worth a lot. then I continue on with getting over hump day, taking out the trash and making sure my check shows up on Fridays. If I followed politics and got serious about it I would go postal or run screaming into a land far away

@Jeepster47 FYI Rob Ford was a mayor, not anything provincial or federal so he had next to zero involvement in the countries politics

@Mattman3969 - you have it right.  With the cast of characters that are looking like the likely nominees I am quite concerned for the country.  Fortunately our system makes it difficult to make major changes unless you use executive orders.  Time will tell.

This is unfortunately true. People are so frustrated with our government, on both sides of the aisle. I truly worry that after years of retoric, the numbness is the result of what was promised versus what was delivered. Compound that by the general lack solid reasoning from the young voters, perfect storm.
I agree, after this election, find some high ground. It is easier to defend.
I have a bad, bad, feeling, on this. The worst is yet to come.

I'm Canadian, and lived there my first 25 years, and lived in America for the last 21.  In 4 1/2 years I will be living in whichever country has the best economical outlook.  I had thought that would mean I'd be moving to Canada, but they just elected Trudeau, who may be worse than what we have going on down here.

But, he is the Trump-like face of Canadian politics to some of us on this side of the border.  The more outrageous he became the more his constitutions seemed to love him.

Heck, most of us don't understand Canadian politics.  What's with this Monarchy stuff?  I still can't get my arms around the Prime Minister position.  Kind of an "it's always been that way" and "primary minister of the crown" position.  And, I don't quite understand this: If the prime minister loses his/her seat in the legislature, then there's a kind of musical chairs until s/he comes up with a new seat?

However, please don't ask me to explain/defend any of our confusing stuff ie how primaries are run and how our votes turn into delegates ... or how the Electoral College works.

I loved the lack of politics in the military ... you knew who was in charge and where you stood in the hierarchy.  And, if you showed any confusion, it was clearly explained to you ... and most likely not in a politically correct manner.  Very straight forward ... no voting involved.

Fyi, both countries have some pretty crazy political traditions.

Also, Toronto politics are to Canada,  what San Francisco politics are to America.  Neither is a good indicator of the rest of the country.

What happened to all of the people that were leaving "if Obama is elected" 8 years ago?  Are they going to come back?  Was there ever a final count or estimate...or even one person that actually left d/t the election?

I just read an article about this.  Of all the talk of moving because so and so was going to be elected, there have not been any noticable trend in immigration statistics that would ever indicate people have made good on the threat.  Also, not sure what Canada's immigration policies are, but Americans cant just go live there at will.

You can move here to Alberta, Canada....a staunch Conservative (heavy right) province that is currently run by a NDP (socialist) provincial government in a Liberal (left) run country.

It's insightful thoughts like that that give us the clowns we see running for office.

    @Jeepster47

Putting aside what I want and wish for, my prediction is Trump will be president, carson will be surgeon general, christie will be attorney general,  I'm thinking kaisich is on the way to the vp slot - no chance cruz gets a position, nor rubio.

What gives us the clowns running for office is a public that is focused on folks who can talk a good story ... the politicians who promise paradise at no cost to the individual grab the headlines today.  The ones who can lie with a straight face.  Oh yes, we now seem to need a little "reality" show stuff aka Orange County Choppers to really  keep our interest.

When we get a politician who tells the truth about what it's going to cost for paradise, they don't even make it to the ballet.

Intelligent, honest, business oriented executives quickly calculate the odds of succeeding and stay away from running for office.  Unfortunately, I think that's exactly the individual we need.

I'm afraid what puts clowns in office now is the one who promises the most to those who contribute the least.

"Social media gives legions of idiots the right to speak when they once only spoke at a bar after a glass of wine, without harming the community [...] but now they have the same right to speak as a Nobel Prize winner. It's the invasion of the idiots."
