Here are some cooking shots and the final resting... We got to eating and the pics were forgotten. They said they were the best steaks they had ever had... I'll take that... Made the mushrooms and onions with some of the scraps, butter, garlic, and red wine.

Yes... Cooked them in 3 steak flights just to keep the fire hot. My coals were up near the base of the fire ring. Thinking I need some sort of flat and wide charcoal grill just for steaks so I can do more at once.

Really glad this worked out so well for you - big challenge with a big crowd.  The crust on those looks fantastic.

Thanks everyone... I am happy that I was able to do this, builds the confidence for the next time I get the urge to caveman some steaks for a crowd. Thinking about the next group meal, maybe doing a couple of big sirloin steaks and then slicing them at about 1/4" and serving that way with some sides. May be slightly easier to pull off and let me vary the menu as well.
