He made a choice and there was public outrage. Period. He's being crucified in the court of public opinion....it takes idiots like this to be made an example of to discourage future idiots. He wouldn't have this problem bagging a wildebeest. Lion populations are fragile. The African lion population has declined by 30-50% from around 1980 - 2000. They are apex preditors and only thrive on protected lands. Inbreeding is a problem. Read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lion#Population_and_conservation_status

As far as the lion, it's unfortunate. Some will pick up the fight, and I wish them well.
I'm currently at maximum as far as the number of unbelievable, egregious, horrific things that are occupying my thoughts. This lion deal doesn't even come close to replacing something on that list.

Hey @nolaegghead, respectfully, I think the above surveys are probably more enlightening. You have to read beyond the headlines, however, to really see what's going on. Basically, Fox News is the go to news channel for Republicans and, to no one's surprise, is the least trusted by Democrats. To me, what becomes evident in these polls, and the results have survived the test of time, is that there are many offerings to satisfy the Democratic palate, and thus the results are not concentrated on a particular news agency, but only one station that is predominantly perceived as trustworthy by Republicans. A reasonable person would have to admit that this makes Fox an easy target by folks with opposing viewpoints. It's easy to go after the one and only tv broadcast company that presents an opposing point of view to your own. So, I believe it is really a matter of perspective and simple mathematics.

@mahenryak I don't dispute that at all. They have the highest ratings.
I think most of the people who watch only Fox for their news like it because they're getting fed what they want to hear. Same thing with MSNBC. Getting your news only from polarized sources leaves you less informed than aggregating your sources, which is what I do. I'm not taking sides, but I get in ridiculous arguments with people who have warped beliefs on current and past events that come from polarized news camps. Debunking the craziness is both fun and easy. Feel almost guilty like a canned hunt.
Fox has people on that say "mainstream liberal media" about 1000 times a day (that's hyperbole - the number) but people eat it up and don't trust anything from any other news source because they know Fox it the go-to anti-liberal mainstream media. In general, I think the news leans a bit left, but that's not surprising since the whole scale has moved far to the right.

Addendum - people say - you can find anything on the internet as if all information is weighed equally just because the medium is "the interwebs". All information needs to be vetted. This is generally easy to do. Avoid the outlier news sources and read everything in center of the bell curve, esp where there is no agenda in the source.

Can we agree the killing of the lion was not legal? Dentist Douche may have or find a defense, blame others, but at the very least his complicity is irrefutable. (And his prior bad acts are and can be used as evidence of his bad character!)
Can we also agree that there is a difference between what is legal and what is ethical and moral? Dentist Douche's acts in this expedition were neither moral nor ethical. And his defense/excuse (essentially claiming ignorance and blaming it on the guides) is laughable. As a rule, I try not to be judgy or speak in ethical or moral absolutes (or even call names like Dentist Douche) but his actions are and were reprehensible. This is objectively so.
On the media points above, we all are entitled to our own opinions. We are not entitled to our own facts. While there is no absolute objectivity in the media (even Murrow and Cronkite had a point of view) too many media outlets knowingly and cynically conflate opinion and fact as a pillar of their capitalist business models. Nothing wrong with capitalism of course. The problem is that people swallow it hook, line and sinker, accepting opinion that deliberately masquerades as fact. Bad media! Bad consumers of media!
Penultimate point: you can't milk anything with nipples. Sorry -- it's another case of opinion vs. fact.
Final point: Planned Parenthood does not sell body parts. See above re: opinion/fact.
That at is all. Carry on.It's a 302 thing . . . -

@HofstraJet Interesting out of that entire post what captured your attention was a grammatical err on a meme. I guess I missed the spelling err on a web lifted meme... my bad.I'm not into politics and generally abstain from political discussions, but it helps your cause tremendously if you spell the president's name correctly when trying to send a message. That point could be argued.
Sometimes, its actually beneficial to the species to cull the herd. If a male of a species is past mating age and is driving off, hurting or killing younger males that could be mating and propagating the species, then eliminating that male is actually beneficial to the herd.
That's just an example that comes to the top of my head, I'm sure there are more. Haven't paid any attention to that news story. Don't really care to, just playing devil's advocate.

@HendersonTRKing... I'm not sure how PP is not selling body parts. Regardless, what they're doing is illegal and to me... Unethical.
Green egg, dead animal and alcohol. The "Boro".. TN -
@jonnymack you make a good point. I'm not here to solve all the world's problems, but I think it would be a great idea if they had an official to supervise the hunt and knew exactly which animal to kill and make sure no other ones were harmed. Then why not let some foreigner come in and do it? Charge them lots of money that can then be used to help with endangered species and/or the economy of the country. Also, and this is just MHO, don't let them do it with a bow, where its harder to get a good, clean kill shot. Make them do it with a rifle so the animal doesn't suffer for 40 hours or however long it was.

@henapple, while the battle against PP has been going on for years and won't be resolved in this [literal] forum, the linkage by the punditocracy of PP to Cecil ("everyone cares about the lion but no one cares that PP slaughters babies and sells their parts for profit") is a classic political slight of hand . . . a manipulative dog whistle/rallying cry that too many people fall for. Apart from being entirely beside the point regarding the legality/morality/ethics of this particular hunt, it serves to drive a wedge between people of good faith and differing opinions on what is admittedly an emotionally charged subject -- abortion/right to life/a woman's right to choose. In keeping with my original theme, we all are entitled to our opinions about PP and what it does. That said, there are objective facts about the organization that have been ignored or disregarded or distorted in the fight to destroy it, including the circumstances surrounding the video that people are most recently pointing to as evidence of illegal/immoral/unethical activity.
No one's going to change opinions here, and I'm not gonna try. But back to Dentist vs. Lion, I will say that I found the majority of the posts in reaction to Cecilgazi quite encouraging. And then the thread went sideways, as they often do, which usually is pretty entertaining -- at least for a while. Those YELP reviews about the dentist and his practice were at first hilarious and irresistable . . . but they ultimately were more than a bit scary, particularly when you think about the innocent bystanders -- the douche's wife and family and people who work at his practice. Movements against individuals that start with pitchforks and torches, effective though they may be, rarely bring out the best in any of us.

@HendersonTRKing..... Wasn't trying to side track merely point out what I consider a lack of priorities. It's not about abortion being right or wrong. The fact that people are threatening this guy's family and their lives while there's little to no outrage over harvesting body parts is my point.
The media has done everything to discredit the videos. Everyone is proclaiming how great PP is and what a great service they provide and maybe they have. The videos are what they are. Perhaps -- many believe they decidedly are NOT what they purport to be -- see link below from the AP, which may be as unbiased a source as there is (which probably is why it can't survive in the infotainment era).

Plus the $50K the guy already paid, plus the BIG money he is going to pay in fines and penalties. It's easily going to be a quarter million before this is over......
Now think how far a quarter million would go at the local food food pantry, scholarship fund, or another charity nearby. C'mon people--take care of your neighbors before you start making death threats and opening your wallet for a 13 y/o dead lion 6000 miles away. YES, it sucks, but we have problems of our own. Oprah, Bono, etc have us covered over there--they're not giving a dime to anyone in St. Louis though.

Nola perhaps you would still like dinosaurs roaming the earth? How would you fit their ribs on your Egg?
I am gonna miss all those mice and rats listed on that extinction list. I mean why not, the plague provides a nice break from the work schedule
I get it, the lion is being protected against potential extinction. But again I ask, Should his business and employees be extinct prior to a trial (If he did anything illegal?) Are death threats warranted prior to the hunter being found guilty?
Answer yes and you stand for internet lynch mobbing and against our American legal system.
Innocent until proven guilty not the other way around.
I feel like you are accusing me of siding with the hunter....saying things like, "is hanging his head on YOUR den wall more important to you". I do not hunt animals Nola.
I do not hunt for any big game. I hunt pheasants a couple times a year for table fare and because my dog loves it.
Your posts remind me of Fox/MSNBC news, you slip sensationalistic innuendos in for effect to make your point more favorable to the masses.
I mean no offense at all just trying to keep a level head about all this. Let him be charged and proven guilty before we judge and punish.

Funny how people will trump one event with another because they feel it's worse. Unfortunately, with all the terrible things going on in the world, I feel bad about more than just one event at a time. It's easy for people to get on the white horse and protest against something for a day. Or raise hell on a public forum because it's their legal right. It's your right as an American to burn the American Flag. To me, just because it's legal, doesn't make it "right". But it's much harder to actually do something that matters. Like donate your time once a month at an animal shelter or a day care. For those that do, I commend you...
As far as the politics being thrust into so many posts...I honestly can't say my life has changed one way or another based on who is President. Maybe when I have more time to watch the news and read all the information on the web I will be swayed by others telling me how bad my life is under one political party and the unfilled pot hole is the result of our current president as one family member points out every time he hits a bump in the road.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas
