Should I?

Went to pickup my warranty base and firebox today. They have one large left of the discounted ones...they bought 4 dozen of them and the Mothership allowed them to sell them at a lower price. Been thinking about getting a large to go along with our XL and Mini. Really love our XL, have had it since 04 or so. Thing I have never liked about it is the amount of fuel we use when making burgers etc for the 2 of us. If I do get it my Ugly Drum Smoker will be going to the scrap pile.

Why use the XL for the two of you when you have the mini? I did a 3.5# tri tip on the MM. I can easily cook meals for two on it.

If it's just the two of you 80% or more, get the MM. I've only got two cooks under belt on the MM, but I know it's going to get way more use than my LBGE.

Seriously? I can do FOUR on my mini. Spatched a small chicken on it a couple of weeks ago. Or two chicken breasts plus two thighs.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Gotta tell ya, the MM is very impressive, I done several very successful cooks, and so far, it is flawless. I did two sirloins, two baked potatoes, and asparagus on one cook. The Tri Tip was off the charts I was told, because that sucker was gone (fed 6) when I got back with the camera. I got one small end piece, and mine (about the size of your palm) was way better than I though it would be. It is worthy, dude.

Im not one to ever tell someone not to buy another smoker or grill. My motto is simple, the more the better. If money is not a concern, then go for it. Heck buy a couple of them =)

OK you're justifying the large cost because the XL burns too much lump  =)

There is more to it than that. Seems like every time we make ribs, a butt or a chuckie we make beans with it. I just use our XL when the butt or chuckie is resting...but with the ribs....Sure, the wife can just use her oven but I am really starting to enjoy cooking outdoors. I am currently working on a Reverse Flow smoker as well. I have been looking at the large for quite some time now.
Seriously was not expecting some of the sarcasm...

@Dobie was in jest brother.  You should get it if it's discounted. It's so versatile and you'll love it. And still works well for smaller cooks.

I could not agree more!  I currently have 7 chicken thighs on the MM with room to spare, and this is only my second cook on it as I just got it sunday.  The savings on lump is incredible.  I already feel sorry for my Large and medium because I can already tell they will not get used like they used too.

Skip the large and get the MM.

John I know you have 2 Larges and love it and I understand.  But its amazing how much food you can put on a MM.  And temp control is as good as any other egg.  AND its portable!

I wouldn't mind having a MM, but in all honesty I never go anywhere but work. There isn't a lot of difference in the price of a mm and a large so I would go large, but I like matching sets.

If I did go places, camping, etc I would probably buy a mm, but so far I haven't needed portability.

Only reason we got the mini was the portable gas grill we used when we went shooting broke. Have only used it perhaps a dozen times in the 6 or so years we own it. Can't help but wonder what the price difference is between the MM and the discounted large? Wish I had my Reverse Flow finished....probably would not even be thinking about it....

One thing that I have always been wondering about...I see folks talk about doing a rack of ribs on a Medium...and the MM for  that matter....have to wonder where some of folks are getting there ribs from? Last 3 racks I did there was less than an inch left on either side of the meat....

Ribs are divided to fit smaller eggs. End your torchure and pull the trigger on the large. Unless portability is key.

Just curious, why are they discounted? I ask because I bought a discounted older large egg. I have been nothing but pleased with it thus far.
