And yet we're still the least racist country in the history of the world......so full of hate.
You have anything to back up that assertion?
    Google   :|
Anything specific?  I googled 'least racist country in the world' and the first link:

    http://www.quora.com/Is-there-a-country-less-racist-than-the-United-States

Starts with the line "Canada is significantly less racist than the U.S."
The article you sited was written by a Canadian.   =)

Guess I could have said the US is ONE of the least racist nations.  You f*ckers sure do like to split hairs.  Geesh.

Well the least racist country in the history of the world is a pretty declarative statement for a country founded on the notion that a black man was worth 60% of a white one and it took nearly 200 years before black people could go to school with white people everywhere in the country.
And yet we're still at the top of the list........tells you something about the depravity of man through the lens of time.  No?
Guess that means the rest of the world has a couple hundred years of ground to make up.

To some extent I was just poking the bear with my last post - we've obviously made tremendous strides as a nation.

My general opinion is that when instances of racism become significant national events the idea that we're among the least racist pops up, as if to excuse the awful thing that just happened.  "Yeah, that was horrible, but hey, we're still better than the UK."

I think that is just a way to deflect difficult thought about why this specific thing happened, and if there is anything we could learn from it, to prevent something similar from happening in the future.

I'm not sure why "well there are lots of nations worse than us!" should provide any comfort for what happened in Charleston.

Well, okay.  I'm not certain, but I'd bet that a lot depends on from which perspective you define "tremendous".

I see what you're saying and that's a valid point. Not at all what I was getting at......but valid.
My point is this: In America, at this point in history, where information abounds -  to hate another person based solely on the color of their skin is complete stupidity.

I've lived in America now for 20 years.  I love this country, but I find the constant race nonsense is dumbing down the collective IQ.

Nobody alive today has been a slave, nor owned a slave.  Talking about it, and having a partially black president has done nothing to progress the issue.

I feel we'd be a stronger nation if everybody would just zip it on the skin color thing, and instead concentrate on becoming a great nation again.  I mean seriously - all this effort over skin color??

"The president of Criminal Justice Journalists, an association of crime, court and prison writers, editors and producers, said, "I can't say that this one would have had any more coverage if five whites had been accused of doing these things to two blacks, absent a blatant racial motive... as bad as this crime is, the apparent absence of any interest group involvement or any other 'angle' might also explain the lack of coverage."[49] Police Chief Sterling Owen IV said that there is no indication the crimes were racially motivated and that the murders and assault "appears to have been a random violent act."[52] "There is absolutely no proof of a hate crime," said John Gill, special counsel to Knox County District Atty. Randy Nichols. "We know from our investigation that the people charged in this case were friends with white people, socialized with white people, dated white people. So not only is there no evidence of any racial animus, there's evidence to the contrary."

So @henapple, huh. Right. Maybe you should read your links and pick better examples?  Who am I to say.

Bigotry and Racism. This is a learned behavior, developed and nurtured to full blown hatred by those which are deranged and insecure.
Don't classify this as a southern thing. Classify this as perhaps a mentally challenged person who followed the lead of white supremacists, and given a gun for his birthday. He is at fault for his actions. Those of whom's philosophy he followed are guilty, just as those who would give a challenged person a .45 auto, as a gift for his birthday.
America is great. I Swear, by all that is holy, America is great.
I feel so awful for the victims of this tragedy.
To blame this on southern culture, as some have done, is wrong. My thoughts and prayers go to the innocent in this nightmare.
To the people that foster hate; Your time will come. I just hope it will be as equally devastating in your lives and your families as it has become to the innocent you help to sacrifice based on your ethos.
