One of my so called good knives broke about a month ago and I have been in need of a new knife as I have used some knives that just don't cut it... hehe..
Picked up this Shun knife today from Sur La Table. This thing is sharp as hell!
Picture kinda sucks, but it will have to work.

Very nice Matt. I've got a nearly 3 year old so keeping super sharp knives in the drawers are not an option right now. As soon as she understands completely what she can't open and shut in the kitchen while she is "helping' I will be getting a Shun.
Then again, I could probably be more dangerous then her after a decent 6 pack.....I raise my kids, cook and golf. When work gets in the way I'm pissed, I'm pissed off 48 weeks a year.Inbetween Iowa and Colorado, not close to anything remotely entertaining outside of football season. -
Thanks @NPHuskerFL and @Scottborasjr !
Scott, I have a 13.5 month old and you just made me a little nervous.------------------------------

Get yourself some baby proof cabinet hardware. It'll make you feel better. Nice blade.

@tarheelmatt no reason to be nervous as long as you have a good place to put it out of reach. My daughter has more privilege in the kitchen then most as she helps my wife and I cook. She stands on the counters, gets mixing bowls, plates, etc. It's probably more for my own good because I'd set it down or in the wrong drawer then it is for her.I raise my kids, cook and golf. @Acn That's awesome, might have to get it for in the future. She's not quite 3 so I'm not ready to have her peeling and slicing yet. The mixing and helping season things is where we are at right now.

@tarheelmatt Keep in mind Shun will sharpen at the factory for life! I send mine every year or two to keep in top shape. Only costs you postage. Enjoy your purchase!

Children are grown and gone now.....so, i treated myself a while ago to a Shun Premier 8" chef's knife, a 6" utility knife, 4" paring, 7" santoku, and a 5" honesuki (boning knife)......one of the better kitchen investments I've ever made. They are just a joy to use. Quite easy to maintain, and I have a local sharpener who can maintain them for $3/knife whenever I choose. They are great!Berlin, Maryland

Taking some getting used to. I am definitely respecting this knife. My wife is scared of it and scared with me using it. Not because I cut myself often, but scared I will drop it either on me or on our little one. I let her cut a lemon with it and she said "Wow, OMG". Thing is bad azz!rsterman said:Children are grown and gone now.....so, i treated myself a while ago to a Shun Premier 8" chef's knife, a 6" utility knife, 4" paring, 7" santoku, and a 5" honesuki (boning knife)......one of the better kitchen investments I've ever made. Nice! I bought a Shun boning knife shortly after we moved into the place here in ABQ. It goes through just about anything like it's butter."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

Been sharpening the Bosses bladed for years. Just got an Apex Edge Pro, what we thought was sharp wasn't. What are your plans for keeping your new blade sharp?
