So I still had a hankering for some sushi. The place I used to go to apparently relocated or closed down all together. I recalled talking to my bride about a new establishment near us and went there. It has a very Mom & Pop feel with great customer service and the sushi is extraordinary prepared by the Chef and Owner. I came in at closing time and I didn't feel rushed and was ushered in by staff and the Chef. Fantastic conversation with a Man that has deep Japanese roots and started his craft in Sacramento. I had a nice chat with him and all I can say is I'll be back to dine again. Gave him my HVAC/R info and may have picked up a new account as well. Do you like mainstream dining or the off the beaten path like me?

Awesome! I stopped in for lunch at a similar place. Chef and his wife doing all the work. The chef answered the phone and said NO! I can't send you sushi! I asked what happened and he said the caller was too far away. The sushi wouldn't be food and he should order from someplace closer. I was impressed that he would give up a sale rather than send inferior product.Chicago, IL - Large and Small BGE - Weber Gasser and Kettle

That looks delicious Blake. I love sushi, especially sashimi. Sound like nice people. Food looks excellent!
I saw "escolar" in the window - avoid that fish (also called white tuna or butterfish) or at best eat very little. It can give you some serious stomach cramps and, as @henapple says, get some serious "grumpy". It's banned in Japan and Italy because of the health effects. At least they're labeling it honestly.

Definitely like off the beaten path ... Here on the island they pop up like flies ... Hard to get to them all

My favorite sushi joint near me has a karaoke bar next to it owned by the same folks. Interesting and certainly not something you see every day. Sitting at the sushi bar is a great experience and I enjoy it every single time I go. Plate looks good. Were they wondering why you were snapping photos??!Columbia, SC --- LBGE 2011 -- MINI BGE 2013

Looks great Husker. I love sushi as well. I typically like the off the beaten path places, but were I live now there really aren't any places like that.Large and Small BGECentral, IL

Dude.....you hit the jackpot with that one. Always great to find a hidden gem.

Very cool Blake. Great find. I like off the beaten path. A small joy in life is going to a new town and finding a great "dive".

I always go for the hole in the wall places, the prices are usually more reasonable for the same quality than your "high end" sushi places. I have problems paying $15 for a roll or $8 for a few pieces of Nigiri....Houston, TX - LBGE

Looks great! Here's the thing about sushi: the difference between great sushi and average sushi is like the difference between Wagyu and select."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

@Ozzie_Isaac That's a Maneki-neko, we have a couple of the figurines. Japanese cat figure that reportedly brings good luck. We named a stray that lives outside (and mostly on our front porch) Neko.

@Fred19Flintstone Seeing that photo reminded me of my Dad. I always thought he resembled Eddie Haskell from his older pics.
He's on the far right. Pic taken (I believe) in Hawaii when they lived there when my Grandfather was in the Marines WWII And Grandmother helped with the Canteen in Hawaii and North Platte (google it).

I don't care for Americanized sushi, which always seems to involve some sort of mayonnaise, and cooked "sushi". Nagiri, shashimi and sushi work just fine for me.

I guess I'm the only one that thinks sushi is frigging disgusting. Don't really like hole in the wall restaurants either. Usually a let down, or worse yet food poisoning. But I always always stop for hole in the wall bars. The shadier the better.
