According to Wiki it was created in 1824 by Henderson William Brand, a chef to King George IV of the United Kingdom.

I’ll trust the label over wiki.

I used to love "A1 Steak Sauce". All I can find in stores in recent years is "A1 Sauce".

Sure wish they would start selling the steak sauce again.

Going from couch to bed with the stomach virus. Just can’t get comfortable. Daughter had it yesterday and now my wife and I have it. Trying to eat some bananas, applesauce, and drink Gatorade so I can get some fluids in my body.

It's an English sauce, for one.  They probably didn't GAF about the American Revolution,  and that date is purportedly when the sauce was featured at the World's Fair in England.

Also, product labels aren't a good source of factual information.

I've always preferred HP sauce over A1.  Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Continuing to read applications for the DOE graduate fellowship program.  The last names read like a fairly healthy cross-section of family histories.  All US citizens or PRs though.

Pure curiosity, is that in any way significant or a factor that is considered?

Ha! I can't say one way or the other, as it would be breaking confidentiality.  We're in the middle of the process now, so not everyone who has applied is still in the pool.

They have to be US citizens or PRs to be eligible for the program.  So that's a non-factor in the evaluation really.  They can't even apply without that.

As for family history or ancestry, that's not a factor, no.  The DOE cares about brainpower, full stop.

I figured as much, that’s why I was intrigued by the comments. Thanks.

The list of current fellows - essentially students who won this fellowship within the last four years, is here:

    I'd say that's fairly representative.
