I first would like to apologize in advance for the butchering of what I am about to attempt to explain:

My SIL, is coming back to NOLA from Ghana, for rest and relaxation, on a long overdue vacation. She is, of course, traveling back with her husband and child.

They chose the time around Mardi Gras, since being somewhat native to the area. Seems like a great time to be back.

Well, as it turns out, her husband, My Beautiful Wife's BIL, his brother, will be the King. The King's girlfriend, naturally, will be the Queen.

My SIL has been asked to be in the Queen's Court, and because of that, My Beautiful Wife and I are riding in the Queen' Carriage and have other things to do, that will be in the middle of Mardi Gras while we are in town.

This is where my knowledge of what goes on is not that great.

We will be doing the MOMs Ball, and the Captains Party, and other events throughout their visit back home.

I am somewhat in the dark about these events, but fully aware of Mardi Gras and the parades.

However, My Beautiful Wife, advised me that "it is a party" then she added, "New Orleans kind of party."

    Should be fun.

    I hope.

@YukonRon -better to be lucky than good right there.  I'm sure you will get lots of guidance before the parties and balls start but once it all gets going  the guidance will likely be of little value.  Enjoy this rare opportunity.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

What's more impressive is that the eggs didn't stick.

That's some conquinesdense "sp"  I have spent the afternoon looking at a all-clad skillet.  I am tired of buying sub-par pans.  I figure buy once, cry once.

Yeah the Mom's Ball. I know that for sure, I think there are other activities donning royalty during the festivities we are tied into.
I dunno. You going to MoMs?

@YukonRon My friend, I didn't follow what you have going very well - but I'm easily confused. One thing I'm sure of is that you will drink well and have a grand time. Just post as you go along so we can live vicariously through you.

Survival, I think is the key. I have been told, in the fine dominion of New Orleans, this is like a big deal.

    I dunno.

I have been told it is the alternative party, and I will see drunk people doing crazy things. (Kinda like butt blast? 1 and 2? But just a bit less family friendly?)

This event invitation is through my Beautiful Wife's Sister, who lives in NOLA, when not doing diplomatic service overseas.

Me, I am basically the pack mule in all of this. I serve no function other than to carry My Beautiful Wife's things while there.

I know my place, just enjoying the journey, and protecting my peeps from harm.

Been to that bunch of times.  We have some friends on the court where we can get free tickets whenever we want.  Actually gave some to a couple of Vancouver eggers, here on the forum, and we dropped them off there.

Big honor to be royalty there, that is probably the most decadent party in town.  They do one around halloween too.  I only get in trouble if I go, so haven't been in a few years, and I don't like the current venue, unless it changed, it's a big bar near riverbend.  I first went when it was in St. Bernard, probably 23 years ago, then it was right near my house at Mardi Gras World on the West Bank.

It's a blast, and it will take one or more years off your life expectancy depending on who you're with.  I probably should have been arrested a few times at that event for crimes against nature.

Anyway, your BIL will probably meet our buddy Charles, who's been there for decades, good friend of ours, and it will be nuts.  If, and I'm sure you aren't, you don't like schlongs swinging in the open, boobs, and sweaty everything swaying to live music in an apocalyptic setting, with hallucinogenics abounding, don't go.  Otherwise, go.  Call me for a good lawyer.

Used to go to another party like that, kinda a formal tuxedo, toga and lingerie , long story, can't tell it here, but if I see you, I will.

Couple of tips - don't drive there. Uber, Lyft or cab.  No friends, they will be destroyed even if they don't drink.   Hydrate with plenty of fresh water like you're going on desert mission before you go.  Don't wear underwear because you will not come home with them.  Make sure your affairs are in order.  Have the time of your life.

    Peace out!

Have you tried Muskovy ducks? Ugly buggers but good layers, good at bringing up chicks and plenty of meat on them.

Wow. Thank you for the inside info. My Beautiful Wife had been to a few of these before, and kind of told me it was like nothing I had ever seen.

Trasportation  there has been handled I think, we will be riding in with the queen and her court, not real sure about leaving.

SIL has rented a house, somewhere, where it is supposed to be logistically advantageous for most events.

Hope we get the chance to hook up while there. As soon as I find out more, I will let you know.

Have not.  We actually traded some laying hens for these ducks that we have.  One of my sons is allergic to chicken eggs (so we were buying duck eggs) and this hobby farming family din't want ducks through the winter.  Now more and more people seem interested in these duck eggs!  A guy at work bought us more ducks to keep his supply of eggs coming.  So, in a way, I didn't pick out any ducks that I have. . . they kind of picked me.

I'm in the same boat. I've been using Calphalon non-stick for the past 6 years or so and they're starting to wear down and I think I paid $500ish for that set.

I bought a two skillet set from Williams Sonoma to try them out. So far I'm impressed

We inherited most of our ducks, but gave up because of fox trouble.  Ducks don't seem to like being put to bed in a house, ours would stay out on the brook and we spent many late summer nights trying to chase them in before giving up.  They don't roost up high either, so easy pickings, and all got eaten apart from 'Lucky' (lucky to be alive) who lasted a couple more years.

We had Muscovys and Indian Runners.

I really like duck eggs, but hens are less work and at least make an effort to avoid being eaten by the fox.
