Looking forward to finally sleeping after a whole month of staring at multiple newsfeeds to keep across the Premier League transfer window.
And there's big news for @eoin A 6'8' robotic hole has emerged on the Stoke City bench.

watching my town play politics. 5 police captains got their raise, about 430,000.00 each for the year (about $2,150,000.00). meanwhile the department is laying off 50 younger officers if the town doesnt give the department an additional 2 million.  this qualifies more towards corruption than politics
Holy cr@p.  I am in the right job, but in the wrong country!  How much?

Evidently the funding and budgeting mechanism for policing is very different over there.  Here's it is mostly govt funded (approx 2/3rds) and the rest through local tax - but the police alone can not seek to raise that amount. An elected commissioner has to apply for any uplift from the local authority.
Increments were capped at 2% p.a until this year (so that's 2% max uplift on the per household contribution that comprises the other 1/3).  That cap has gone and now the elected commissioner seeks as much as they think the public and local authority will stomach - up to 5% in some cases.
However central govt contributions (the 2/3) have now flatlined having been cut by close to 30% in the last five years.

Would love to know the span of command and budget those captains have.

I maybe shouldn't have talked trash about the freezing weather here in MN. I made it to work 3 days in a row when it was optional. -27 wasn't going to slow me down from beating old man winter. Not on my watch. Well........

I made it to work today but only for an hour. My wife calls me in a panic and asks me where the main water valve is located. I thought, "This conversation isn't going to get any better". I was right.

A water pipe ended up bursting in a spare room downstairs. I was very fortunate that my wife was home at the time. The carpet took a good soaking. That took the most time to get cleaned up. I was able to track the pipe down relatively easy. My dad stopped over to lend a hand.

We got everything put back together (except wall) and are up and running again.

My leg's are kicked up with a cold one in my hand. It's been a long day.

they should be making closer to 100k per year which is more the average across the country.  seems it helps if you are a captain and your dads the mayor ;)

rover didnt start this morning in the cold.  battery volts tested fine, alternator was working, tested the battery cells and they were fine, then pulled the battery and tested it under a 10 second load.  no good.  new battery.  radio was skipping every once in a while, thought maybe something was corroded somewhere, turns out it was the battery, all fixed.

had to take the spring shocks off the hood to lift it higher to remove the battery, dropped it on my left hand, really need to hold a cold beer right now

Okay, I've never visited a shipyard before, but I always thought the ships were built at the water's edge, and slid in when ready to launch.  This is the launch of a nuclear sub, and VERY impressive!

I’m not even a big fan of shrimp but I’d clear that plate.
