Me and my wife had the pleasure of spending the day at brother Grims place yesterday. Had a absolute blast hanging out and cooking with his family and friends. All fine people for sure. He had a friend over that put on a bread cooking demonstration. I can say honestly that was the best bread I have ever eat. It was phenominal. Brother Grim, thanks again for having us over. Looking forward to having yall at our place for the traditional New Years hog my friend.

Add about 50 toothpicks out the sides & it'd look like a centipede!

Sounds like everyone had an awesome time. I plan on going to at least two Eggfests next year and hopefully the Eggtober fest. It would be fantastic to meet as many of you as possible.

Looks and sounds great Scotty, I'm sorry I couldn't make it, but I will next time!  Also, I'm interested in the bread making.

How well do the "numbers" do on bread as compared to the Egg?

All the bread was made on the Xlarge BGE. This is one area where the egg out shines the big units by a considerable margin. It's not even close. For bread the egg wins hands down. After eating that bread yesterday, I dug my AR out of the barn and ordered another 13 inch stone so I can duplicate their double stone bread set up. Mickey I swear it was easily the best bread I have ever had. Period.

@Mickey- While I'm a huge fan of both verticals and offsets, I have no problem admitting the egg bests them both for some things. Bread is one of them. I'm fixing to put Qing on hold for a while and start practicing bread making. They made a believer out of me my friend.

They have invited me to start attending their bread making class next week. As soon as I know how I will gladly share. I know nothing about bread right now. He wants to learn to cook whole hog so I agreed to do one for him on Unit #6, in exchange he is going to let me attend the bread classes.

The verticals and offsets simply don't get hot enough.

Agreed sir. Also they both lack the reflective heat that the ceramics have. He said this was a huge plus to using the egg.

They made 3 different kind of loaves. Sourdough, potato and the other I can not pronounce nor spell. They were all equally impressive my friend.

No. It was a name I had never heard before. But it was outstanding.

I'll start doing betting pictures and process on the breads we are making. I have been mostly just watching and acting as assistant and egg master. We have a sour dough culture going that we used for the Ciabatta.

The thing about bread is most of these are flour, salt, water, and a form of yeast.  It's the process that makes them so unique to one another.

Some are simple to give a recipe that anyone can do in a single afternoon like the honey wheat.

    2 Cups whole wheat flour
3 cups unbleached white flour (or bread flour)
about a 3rd cup of honey or so
    a table spoon of salt
    and a stick of butter
Water to consistency (be VERY careful as the butter takes a while to melt and fully permeate the dough, it's easy to over water.)

Knead but not too much and let rise for about 2-3 hours.  Then put the whole wheat cut in the top (looks like a star) and bake at 450 for about 20 minutes or so

Brother Unit #6 looked even better sitting in your yard than it does in mine. We had a heck of a good time and are looking forward to the next get together. Tell your friend I have a hog ordered. I will gladly demonstrate how to cook it at his convienance.
