OT: Radio while egging suggestions.
Currently in search of a good portable radio that I can use in my yard or on my patio. I spend lots of time outside working and of course cooking on my bge.
Yesterday I noticed a nice job-shop radio while visiting a house that was under construction. I'm thinking about the Makita LXRM03b radio with iPod docking station.
I figured a job-shop radio because they are so durable and the one I saw had decent sound. A docking station is a necessity for me. I want to be able to listen to my downloaded music and Pandora.
Also will my android phone work on a iPod docking station? I know that android and iPhone are different, but not sure about this
My budget on this is $150ish.
Anybody have any better ideas or suggestions for a portable radio? Thanks!

Does it have to have radio capacity? There are some nice speaker docks for 150.

Sorry, the radio you are looking for. -
If you are not in need of the actual radio but just want to listen to downloaded tunes or radio off of your phone, you might look into the numerous Bluetooth speakers on the market these days. Bose has probably the best, but it's pricey at around $300ish. I picked up a G-Project G-Go portable wireless Bluetooth at Target a couple years ago for about $70 and love it. Really good sound for being pretty small and works great while working in the garage, yard or out by the pool.

Bluetooth speakers and speaker docks are very good suggestions. But I do want a radio so I can listen to sports, news and talk when not listening to music.I like the durability factor of the shop radios. Thanks so much for suggesting!"I'm stupidest when I try to be funny"

Looks pretty good. Any idea how it compares to the Milwaukee or Dewalt radios? I also have seen some different ones at Sam's and Costco from time to time, but never paid much attention.

Another thing that you can look for is if it has an aux. input. My bosses dewalt has one and then just connect your phone to radio with a dual sided earphone jack.middle of nowhere- G.I. NE

I've had that Makita radio for about 4 years and it works great. It can run on Makita 18 volt batteries for 16 hours (meant for 2, 8 hour work days) without recharging. While it does not charge the battery (like the dewalt one) you can unplug it from the wall for 16 hours. I've even dropped it off a boom lift at 20ft and it didn't even phase it.Makita did not think the typical "job site radio" was tough enough, so they built one themselves, most of the other ones are a radio with the tool company badges on it.Sound wise the others might be a slightly better, but if you just want portability without worrying about when you need to charge it next, I highly recommend it.edit: I actually have this oneI don't know if your phone will work in the dock, but it has an auxiliary jack on the front under the button that you can use with the headphone jack of your phone (that's all mine has, but I can see it on the photo of the other one)Large & Small BGE, CGW Two-Tier Swing Rack for BOTH EGGS, Spider for the Wok, eggCARTen & and Cedar Pergola my Eggs call home in Edmond, OK.

Do u have cordless power tools? I use Milwaukee tools so I have a Milwaukee radio that also charges my batteries. My neighbor has ryobi power tools. He has ryobi radio. Other neighbor has makita with makita radio. Rigid makes one. Dewalt makes one. I saw a Bosch at lowes that was pretty nice but I don't use Bosch tools. As for the iPod/android I don't see where the android would be a problem. It plays more as an aux than a "dock"LBGE& SBGE———————————————•———————– Pennsylvania / poconos

I really love my Bose Soundlink Bluetooth speaker. $299. I'll
Never be without one. Don't buy one with a specific dock. Next year when you upgrade your phone, it becomes a boat anchor. Also at parties like brisket camp, anyone with a good playlist can connect and play to a Bluetooth speaker. Can't say enough good stuff about the Soundlink. Sound is amazing, battery life is hours and hours. It's small but can fill a large room with killer sound. Get one.Keepin' It Weird in The ATX FBTX -
@grege345 I have a Makita cordless drill.
So Makita makes sense for me. I also like the way it looks. I just read a bunch of good reviews.
The aux port should work just fine. I might go with the model without the dock. Its less expensive.

@The Cen-Tex Smoker I like the idea of Bluetooth and I actually have a small HMDX Jam speaker that I use and like. I was looking for something more like a portable radio with AM and FM also with the ability to play my downloaded music and Pandora. I also want durability. something I can leave on my patio or in my work shed. That is why the job-shop radio caught my attention.I'll probably pull the trigger on the Makita tomorrow. I'm convincing myself"I'm stupidest when I try to be funny"

If you already have Mikita tools, I'd definitely buy one and the white/teal one will work out great. It is very durable.Large & Small BGE, CGW Two-Tier Swing Rack for BOTH EGGS, Spider for the Wok, eggCARTen & and Cedar Pergola my Eggs call home in Edmond, OK.

Your android phone won't drop into an iPod dock. The apple connectors are proprietary to their products.TigerTony said:Here a link of the one I'm looking to buy:

For $200 you can get into the number one wireless music system. Sonos. A Play 1 will fit and it will allow you to listen to any music on your ipad, or I phone, or mac or pc. There are multiple free radio play that work through the sonos. Just give it a look at least.
