I threw up a little after seeing the inside of that soft-serve machine.   You see lots of package units?  I guess if your roof is strong enough....

Food looks delicious man!  The squash turned my wife on.

No offense but your steaks don't look as appetizing after looking at the picture of the soft serve machine that someone took a soft serve dump in. Won't be eating at DQ.

Thanks! Pretty simple recipe. Cut lengthwise. A little unsalted butter, sugar in the raw (or ya could use brown sugar), kosher salt and cracked pepper. Raised indirect at 400℉ till tender (roughly 35-40 minutes).

@yzzi‌ to be fair that particular unit hasn't been used for awhile. There's about $2,700 worth of repairs before that unit will be mechanically ready and food safe.

I still want DQ soft serve right now. Pretty sure none of that grody scum came in contact with product. Right? Please say that's a sealed system and everything is OK... :D

Food looks great! Try adding some cinnamon and allspice to the squash for something a bit different. Or just use Dizzy Pig Pineapple Head for another slant.

@DMW‌ yes the SS barrel is100% sealed. But, the best part was when I was working on the other unit "Unit #2". I look at the owner and tell her the chocolate tastes funny as I'm testing product consistency. She says where did you get the chocolate. I say Your husband loaded product. She comes back and says I'll need to clean and sanitize it again. I'm all like....Whyyyy??? She whispers the product is 6 months out of date. :-O L-) :-& 10 minutes later I destroyed the porcelain. Honest mistake I guess.

Great looking food. Please, no more pics of the internal guts of ice cream machines. Some stuff/things are better kept behind the SS.

@NPHuskerFL‌- This is probably a stupid question but what does the inside look like where the ice cream is actually made? Does it look as bad as the outside?

That ain't an Electro Freeze. THIS is an Electro Freeze...

Carl's Frozen Custard, Fredericksburg VA, Est 1947 using those same machines. Best soft serve in the world! And it's in my home town.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

@SGH‌ nope the barrel is sparkling clean SS.

Here's an example. The barrel is clean but, has damage due to worn out scraper blades. But the barrel is still good. As you can see it is very clean.

  • Great looking food pics! I very seldom eat out due to the buzzards that work in a lot of restaurants. Some people are just nasty and aren't concerned with serving you clean food.

Ah hah now the pics are showing up. Including one i wish would not!

What is the cleaning procedure for a soft serve machine at the end of the day? Do most stores do it right?

    Maybe you're right.

I worked in the kitchen at Boston market one summer. I made all the side dishes, corn bread, salads. Knowing how we cleaned the kitchen I would happily eat that food! They were super careful about temperatures and cleanliness.

@blind99‌ yes a good % do clean them properly. But, the debris you see here is a few years of buildup from product leaking through the shaft/beater bar cup seal. DQ cleans and sanitizes the barrel daily. They Do Not open the side (mechanical) panels typically (that's not part of the normal process). They cleaned this one sparkling clean before I left (it took a crowbar, chisel, hammer , shop vacuum, buckets & buckets of scalding hot sanitizer. But, it's completely clean now.
