mattress question

It seems there was a thread a while back but couldn't find it on google. Basically narrowed down to an Englander Resort and Sleep Number M7. Both are gel top and include pillows, box and cover. The Resort is $1900 and the SN is $2500. Both are "half" price. Any input on these two would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have 2 queen size Tempurpedics..

Nice Mattresses....but mine are 4 years old and do not have the "cool" technology so the are a bit warm.

The New "cool" gell is supposed to be real nice.

No personal experience with either of those. However, if/when we replace our it will be adjustable firmness of some sort. We spent a decent amount on a high end mattress. Since then I've lost 80#. My side of the bed is not so comfortable any more and SWMBO won't switch with me....Go figure.

@DMW‌...that's one of my worries. Another is there seems to be a lot of bad reviews on the SN.

I bought a sleep number I8 last November, and it has been life altering for me.

I have a bad back and bulging discs. I used to wake up every morning in pain. Since I bought the sleep number no more back pain. I mean Zero!

    I wouldn't take 10 grand for mine.

Sleep number bed is an air mattress. Slept on one.a few times. No thanks.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Carolina Q  I agree that is an air mattress. My wife and I both had a hard time shelling out $4,500 for a glorified air mattress, BUT I sleep so good on it, and I wake up in no pain.

I told my wife that I don't care if it is an old cot from the YMCA if I can sleep on it and not be in pain I am good with it.

I'd disagree that's it's an air mattress in the sense that it's only that. The M7 is super comfy. I thought my number would be high but at a 35-40 my lower back quit hurting. @johnkitchens‌, quality?

@henapple concerning quality, I have had zero issues with it so far. I have only had it a year, but so far so good.

My number is a 40, and I couldn't be happier with it.

Perhaps sn beds have improved since I slept on one. It truly reminded me of those things we took camping years ago. Pretty awful.

If you have back problems and a sn bed helps, that's cool!

Carolina Q Mine is nothing like that. Maybe you were on one of their low end cheap ones.

I have heard that some of the hotel ones are pretty cheap. On mine you can't tell that is air. It looks and behaves just like a regular mattress.

We have been sleeping on the Sleep Number for 15 years now.  Last year the original air pump died, and they still covered more than half as a warranty issue.  I keep my side pretty hard and The Spouse like hers soft.  No complaints.

Don't remember which mattress version it is, but i know it isn't a new cool gel or a pillow top.  We also forked out the dough for the "hospital" frames.  Elevate head, feet, vibrate the piss out of you.  I don't use the added features that much, but I do find it very convenient to raise the head and feet all of the way when changing the sheets, so it's one of my pre-programmed settings on the remote control.  My wife sleeps with hers slightly elevated.

mattresses make my blood pressure rise.  the "S"s (simmons, sealy, S&F etc) only finish one side and act like it's a benefit.  the pillowtops feel comfy but get irreversibly compacted after a few months. and they all seem to get soft too fast.  i read a lot of stuff on sleep like the dead . com and consumer reports and there really was no clear winner, just get what feels comfortable.  good luck!

I did forget to take it this morning. I got to playing with my land level and just forgot about it. Just took it though. I get a little edgy when it wears off. Starting to settle back down now. My wife gets on me bad when I don't take it. Says I'm unbearable when I'm off of it. The nerve of her ;) She is the unbearable one!!

  • We own a SN and we sleep pretty well.  The mattress is a high tech air mattress and as such is light weight.  It slides and I have to re-position it every day.  Kind of a PITA.

    +1 for Tempurpedic

I didn't want to spend the money, but wife convinced me. They usually have 0% financing as well. Love that mattress, wouldn't trade for anything.
    Love you bro!

  • We bought a sleep number bed back in 1999.  It's still going.

Only one problem a few weeks ago: the intake valve started leaking.  Most people would just purchase another air chamber but I took a look at it and decide to repair it.  I used Gorilla Glue.  Worked like a champ.

Like has been said before, we too had back problems.  A neighbor said their back problems went away the very night they purchased their Select Comfort number bed.  Others we talked to liked it too, mostly for the same reasons.  Others strongly suggested memory foam while some said memory foam was hot and not adjustable.

After much consideration we went for the Select Comfort, not the highest price one but high enough.  It had the padded top and higher quality wireless control device and air pump.

The next morning we had no back pain.  None at all.  And it remained that way until about ten years later when I was diagnosed with a genetic condition that caused back pain.  Only my pain was all day, every day, and not even closely related to my mattress.  Surgery fixed it and I continue to sleep fine on my fifteen year old mattress.

My wife likes her side at 50 while I like mine between 35 sometimes and 75 sometimes.  I can just press a button and get the feel I want.  That's what will make me get another Sleep Number Bed if this one ever wears out.

We bought ours this past summer when I just couldn't take my back pain anymore. I had my mind made up on the sleep number till I laid on it. Then realized I better lay in all of them. So we spent two days shopping. Still don't know whether I made the right choice but my back pain had definitely lessened. It's all what's good for you.

We did the same thing @Jeremiah. I told my wife one Friday evening that we were going mattress shopping the next day and that we weren't coming home until we had made a decision. I was so tired of waking up in pain. I have broken about 20 bones so I realize I will have a certain level of pain in my life, but I was sure a new mattress would help.

The only reason I wanted a sleep number was because I could adjust the firmness. My back pain is 99.99% better. That is an endorsement!
