    I know you're probably joking but running from bears isn't the right thing to do generally.  If you run, they'll think you're prey and chase after you.  Moreover, they're faster than you.  A lot faster.

    Unless you're with other people. Then you only have to outrun someone else. I have been way way to close to bears to be comfortable (both grisly and black), but you're absolutely right. Playing dead and moving very slowly will be your best bet.
