ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Has anyone done this? I was nominated and Donated and also did the ice bucket dump this weekend. Thought about nominating a few members here, but decided to go with the management team at work. Amazing how this has gone viral. I'm sure every charity out there wishes they had thought of it. I'll try to post the video when I get home.

Oh yeah. The whole thing started in New York (upstate) but very quickly spread to Boston (my home town) where it blew up. It's amazing to see the extent of how it's taken off! The amount of money it's pulled in for ALS is crazy.

It's really blown up. For whatever reason, people seem to enjoy filming themselves pouring buckets of ice over their heads. Go figure.

It doesn't take much to amuse people. I still try to forget  the planking phase people went through. At least this one is for a good cause

I haven't done the challenge and will not be pouring cold water over my head, but I did make a donation. 

My grandmother had ALS.

I've done it, donated, and challenged a number of friends, who have all followed through. Just read an amazing piece of information from sports business reporter Darren Rovel, "The national chapter of the ALS Association raised $23 million in 2013. The Bucket Challenge in 22 DAYS has raised $22.9 million."

I read on The Google today that this genius of an idea has raised 15 million vs. 1 million same time last year.  Pure. Genius.

Terrific way to raise awareness and research money for a truly awful disease.

I did it over the weekend AND donated (none of this "do it OR donate $100" crap for me).  Then mixed up a bucket for Wifey and dumped it on her from the top of a lifeguard stand at our beach.  Seems that an "iceberg" was hiding in the slurry . . . popped her square on the noggin.  Talk about slapstick humor . . . no permanent injuries, fortunately.

This happens in the video I posted above, along with the bucket itself clocking people in the head. Very slapstick, quite funny.

Hilarious.  She posted a 2nd vid of the berg that hit her (and me giggling at the top of the stand) -- it was like 4 x 6 x 4.  Ouch.  Good sense of humor, though.  Prob why we're still together after 20+ yrs.

Charity Navigator says ALS Association is GREAT about getting $$$ to research.  Let's hope all these efforts, despite being silly, move the cause forward.

I'm taking it up a notch! Got a dunking booth and will be charging people $10 for a shot at me!  I do a ton of local advertising so I'm pretty well known in my market. We are expecting a pretty big turnout! I'll post the video after it's done this Friday afternoon!

I was challenged and did it at work yesterday evening. I used a Backhoe bucket full with over 80 gallons of freezing cold ice water. It was a lot more water than I expected! I did it in honor of my uncle, who was diagnosed 2.5 years ago with this dreaded disease.

Wife and the kids have done it but I haven't been nominated YET.  Cousin just passed away last month from ALS......what a wicked disease.  Left behind two beautiful girls 9 and 4.  I HATE cold water but despise ALS much more. Anything to help stop it is cool with me!!!
