Had a great time... Weather was good, company better, food great, and golf sucked. Ain't really upset about the golf, had fun doing it so that's all that mattered. I'm sure I missed quite a bit around here so I'll have to play a little catch up. Might be tough; have to finish all of my mid year eval's this week. Couple of pics of the first night cook up at camp. All done on a bed of OO off to the side of the main fire. Did 6 NY strips and 4 potatoes. My BIL and 2 of the cousins that were there the first night said these were the best steaks that they've ever had and they loved the taters. Taters were rubbed with olive oil and then a heavy coat of sea salt, pepper, and garlic salt. They were on for about 45min Actual pics from the iPhone5S, these are not sketches :)) And now I'm happily back home where I belong. Kind of like a hobbit, a big hobbit, but a hobbit just the same. Enjoying my favorite stick and some Titos. imageimageimage
Looks like my morning ritual Hap!!     :P

Sounds like you had a great trip!

Strong work Hap.  I introduced an old friend to caveman steaks last night.  He is sold.

I just remembered this post and came back to check how the steaks turned out.  They look great.  I'm definitely thinking of trying this next time I go camping.  I sometimes bring my small egg but a small bag of charcoal is definitely more portable!

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

I was thinking about taking the cheapo portable grill along with us when we go on vacation this weekend.  Think that I could get a pile of lump hot enough to do some caveman steaks on it?

Those caveman steaks look awesome!  I have had a lot of campfires, but haven't tried that yet.   Maybe I'll just skip the pan all together the next time I go!

Do you put them on the hottest red coals you can scrape up to a platform?

Anyway...post more pics of campfire steaks!   THIS was my last campfire cook.
