@nolaegghead sent me some New Orleans goodies including Tony Cacheres, assorted sauces, beignet mix, and some much needed computer adapters. Many thanks!
Anyway, SWMBO saw the box and said "that's it! You're finally building that spice rack!" So, after 2 hours of work and 30 bucks later...
Voilà!
Even worse, SWMBO likes it so much I'm now tasked to build some shelves and a liquor cabinet/bar.
Thanks Nola!

My pleasure. I did the obligatory KY search zooming in on the picture above and I'm happy to say you passed.

So you made it? Did you check and make sure the door closes?

Yup. I have 7 inches of clearance and the rack is 4 inches deep.

Measuring and using motherf*ckin' math n sh*t! I'm impressed.
I need to make more of that kinda stuff, we're long out of storage space.

I need to do that. Right now all my rubs/spices are on lazy susans, which makes it a pain to find the one you want.They/Them

Skiddymarker said:Egghead_Daron said:How did you secure it to the door?@Egghead_Daron, I used hollow-core door anchors(They look like drywall anchors). I ran 2 inch screws through the rack into the anchor. I leveled the rack on a chair and drilled through the rack into the door for guide holes(the wood is white board so I wasn't worried about splitting). Here are the anchors:

Trust me, you'll never have enough room. Build more spice racks and you'll just accumulate more and more spices.....

@nolaegghead, what did joinery did you use? I just pocket holed mine but I want something cleaner if out in the open. I'm thinking dado or M&T. This woodworking thing is an evil virus, I fear.

@eggcelsior - I just used a rabbet for the back and tacked it in with some brads, no glue (expansion). The shelves are held in by floating tenons (Festool Domino) and the top and bottom are just butt joints with countersunk Kregg screws and filled with plugs. I wanted them to be seen.
Next ones I make (yes, I need more storage), I'll probably do sliding dovetails for the shelves and a through dovetail for the tops and bottom. I have an Incra rig on my router table that makes those easy.
You can buy a dowel guide and use dowels and keep everything hidden, plus it's fast and easy.
