My PitMaster IQ120 FREAKIN ROCKS !!!!!!!

My XL is so much more awesome with this PitMaster controller attached to it .... it ain't even funny! My God! I can't even put it into words. This temp controller just blows me away every time I use it. It is so foolproof, but yet it's such an engineering marvel. Folks, I can't say it enough; if you don't yet have a temp controller for your Egg and/or Eggs please do yourself a favor and check out the PitMaster IQ controllers! It's a set it and forget it operation for now on with all my low and slows. I learned how to do slow cooks without it, but I will NEVER do another without it! This thing Amazes the chit outta me! I am doing Spare Ribs today for the BIG GAME. I lit my fire and immediately plugged in the PitMaster. Set my pit temp for 230 degrees and closed the lid. I let the PitMaster do all the work, meaning I let it bring the fire up to 230 degrees instead of me. It has never once overshot my set temp yet. It has a Lid Detection feature that is the BOMB! Wife says she needed eggs for cooking today ... no problem. I wanted some Apple Juice for when I foil the ribs anyway. So into my truck I go to make a trip into town for some groceries. Arrive back at home 45 minutes later and guess what? You got it! My Egg is pegged on 230 degrees. I wouldn't expect anything less out of my PitMaster! Do you know why? .... because it FREAKIN ROCKS!!! :D If you don't have one, BUY A PITMASTER RIGHT NOW!

I have been researching a little, I want a pit controller. I wast up at 2, 3, 4 and 5 this morning chasing the temp for my butts. I can usually get it dialed in just right but last night was kinda rough, I guess due to the wind gusts? I don't know why for sure but dang, I'd love one of those things.

I just visited their site. That's a strong testimonial. Will look into it because I'm in the market for one of these. Was leaning toward the PartyQ.

  • Just wanted to mention that depending on the size of your Egg you might get by with a IQ110. I just decided to go with the IQ120 because I have the XL, plus I liked that the IQ120 had the food probe. I don't own a Maverick and thought that the food probe might prolong me from having to get one. I just didn't want a bunch of unnecessary wires to deal with and figured running the Maverick would add to the wire mess. I truly trust my PitMasterIQ120 enough @ this point that I'm VERY COMFORTABLE with letting it go and do what it's supposed to do. I think starting the fire correctly & letting the PitMaster bring it up to temp is the key. After that, you simply enjoy doing other things during your low and slows!

    Thanks buddy!

I haven't even had a chance to run my 120 yet, but I've had the 110 for five years without a hiccup.  I don't really need all the extra functions on my BGE, but the 120 has a special program to run my Rebel23--that's what I bought mine for.

That is hilarious. When I read it...I was thinking, man that is a very passionate post.

I need to read it again with Billy May in mind.

I am truly passionate about what I'm saying! Seriously, the PitMaster simplifies everything about a low n slow. I looked at them all when I was buying and I felt for the money the IQ120 was by far the most bang for my buck ... and I still feel that way. I'd be willing to bet most folks rule out the PitMaster before the DigiQ simply because of that black tube hanging off of it, and what they don't realize is that the black tube isn't designed for looks but more for function. The controller simply hangs off my s-hooks from one of my nest mates and you slide the tube on the adapter that pops into the bottom vent and your up and running. There is an air intake vent setting on the controller also that seems to be a very good feature. I didn't like that the DigiQ hangs right off the bottom vent and protruded out some. Are any of you guys bumping the DigiQ's around with your legs? Regardless, my IQ120 functions perfectly and I'd be willing to bet it will continue to do so for a very, very long time. ;)

That was the big selling point for me......I can hang the control unit / blower underneath the Egg away from the rain, dripping BBQ sauce, etc.  And if the fire should get crazy, worst thing that is going to happen is melting the snorkel tube (not burning up a $100 fan motor.)

    I like this design.

Is there a tube that will allow this to be used with a smoker that has a female port built into grill?

Yes......there are several adapters.  That tube will fit on any 1" hose barb.  If you have a grill with a  1" NPT female fitting, their included barb will fit.  They also work with the Weber "daisy wheel" with the standard adapter.  There are two different adapters for Kamado's, depending on the size.

Just make sure you tell me what kind of smoker you have when you order so I get you the correct adapter(s).

  • I wouldn't think it would take much of anything to adapt the tube to just about any type of pit.

The design of this Pitmaster eliminates the risk of condensation leaking into the blower unit.

That's a big plus, in my opinion.

    +1 @ RickyBobby

I too love my IQ120.  My record is 27 hours at 185 degrees on LBGE...the brisket I cooked was my best yet...
I agree totally set and forget...
There are other controllers out there with more features, but I thought this was the best cost point for me.
    Love mine.

I'm sure they all have their pluses and minuses ... I'm just blown away how it so effortlessly functions at controlling my XL. Especially when I did a batch of Jerky @ 155 degrees. I just really want to brag it up some. PitMaster makes a great product that should most definitely be recognized.

Me too, they work great.  Besides that they don't look like they were built in 8th grade shop with parts from Radio Shack and Westlake Hardware.
