@stlcharcoal I want to be an agent too! Where do I sign up and what is the kickback?? :)
Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ....
  • Nope this is number 3, it is 14 years old. My first one was a small and was made out of clay and was that red brick color. Picked it up one morning after cooking on it at deer camp the night before and I guess the bands became loose and the whole bottom fell out of it. My second one did not make a move from FL to TX. This one made it from TX back to Atlanta in 06 and so far so good. Still all original parts inside and I have never had to tighten the bands or even check them.

Pretty cool stuff! I hope my XL will outlast me. Trying to explain to SWMBO that I need a new one might be a difficult task.

Glad you found one that you like. I looked at the 110 years ago, but ended up getting an Auber as a present. Was happy with it until I got a FlameBoss to review. Way happier with the FlameBoss, but I'm the only one here with one as far as I know. I think my model number is in the 20s or 30s.

Looking at the 120 and have a question. It looks like the probe wires are thicker than most other controllers. Will it be OK to run the wires across the felt? Not a fan of bringing them through the top. Any other suggestions?

They're not that thick......they are similar to Polder, Thermoworks, or other probes I've used.  That shielding will flatten out.

They run between the felt, Nomex, fiberglass, or woven ceramic gaskets just fine.  If you're running commando/gasketless, you probably need to run through the top.  I run a Cotronics gasket on only the bottom half (bare ceramic on top)......no issues in 5 yrs.

Just missed the mailman though......you could have been preaching IQ's like @RickyBobby as soon as Monday if you would have sent email 15 minutes earlier.  We'll look for your post on Wednesday now.

Funny, my idea of RickyBobby barbecue was driving 85 mph up Texas 130 to Smitty's in Lockhart. I get to drive real fast... legally. Now, I'll be able to barbecue with my new PITMASTER IQ110 AND BE THE MASTER OF MY LUMP DRIVEN, MEAT SLAYIN', RUB RAISING, ADJUSTABLE RIG RIDING CERAMIC MASTERPIECE!!!!!! OPERATORS ARE STANDING BY. Sorry @rickybobby, I just plunked down $130 because of your rant and a well timed annual bonus. SO I'M GONNA SHOUT ABOUT IT. :))

I will admit though...Ricky Bobby's rant was incredibly effective!

While I'm honestly still not convinced there wasn't a affiliation to pitmaster or stlcharcoal before he started this thread...I sure hope there is one now! :)

No affiliation whatsoever ... nadda, zip, zero, zilch. I was just trying to suggest there are other controllers out there to be had besides the Gurus. For the record, I never stated or mentioned that it was "The Best". I just let you all know how much I like my IQ120. :D Aren't product reviews what a lot of folks want to see on a site like this? If so, that was my real world review of my PitMaster. That's all. I am glad to see some folks took it serious and it pushed them enough to actually go and make a purchase. I'm sure the folks who took the plunge will not regret it.

I, for one, really appreciate the product reviews. I was on the fence regarding which controller would work best for us based on the type of cooks we wanted to do. Thanks to this forum, I am happily spending my step kids inheritance, lol. Just kidding, but I have gotten some really cool stuff at good prices thanks to you guys. Keep the reviews coming!

I think this thread has been very very entertaining! In the end, it's a pit controller and it's good to see more people get one!
