 just a quick update.  let me preface this with I know how to care for cast iron.  after my cook I cleaned and oiled. no soap,  no heavy scratching. I talked to someone else that had this problem.  I'm disappointed because I'd use them..

Did you leave them outside? Perhaps it was ambient moisture damage.

I leave both my BGE cast iron grids outside and have no issues with rust.

Perhaps the factory seasoning was inadequate? It looks eaten away and I know that henapple can do know wrong when PBR goggles are in full effect...

Well I would've bought them, rust and all, but I like diamond grid marks, those squares look like a sudoku game...... must be a defective batch of grates....
