Heat treated wood

Those of you from the north west ( Seattle or Vancouver). Have you heard of or used a heat treated wood made just over the US boarder in Abbotsford BC. Season Wood Co.

I saw an article in Fine Woodworking magazine re: thermally modified wood. It's done in a kiln and heated and steamed at over 200*C. This process kills off any thing in  the wood that would cause rot or incects to eat. Has a 25 year warranty against rot.

What intrigued me was how it darkened the wood. It showed some quarter sawn oak which gave the appearance of being fumed. That was the process of Stickley furniture giving the dark brown/gold fleck look.

My goal is to build a Egg table in that design(arts & crafts style). If I can get it in Michigan.

Thanks ahead,Bill
