I was looking around for some information on Kamato cookers, and thankfully stumbled upon this sight, before I go on.. THANKS!
I "babysat" my father in law's Large Green Egg for about a year, and got hooked on the thing. Sadly, It'll be a while before I have the $ to put into one of my own. I was on a site I frequent and saw a fella with a kamato style cooker for $50, I figgured it was worth a try. It is made of clay, at first I thought it was an early egg, but think its another company now. Either way, I took and cleaned it up, took it apart and cleaned everything. After some High temp engine enamel and new hardware its lookin pretty.
I found both the rutland gasket and the permatex copper here locally and put them on today.
I have read the warnings about high heat and clay, so I will definatly be taking that into account, and hope to fire her up this weekend.
Again, I appreciate the community's help in getting this project to this point.

Thanks everyone! Im not too keen on the flat black, grabbed the wrong can off the shelf, as soon as I get a chance to get a wire brush to it I expect that'll be glossy, and the vent will most likely be polished back up to a shine-Greg

Thanks again for all the kind words guys.I managed to get my first cook done, had a really hard time keeping the temp down in this thing, it really wants to get up there, but it came out well. I had my main smokers running for the family reunion, but my little brother spiced up half of a Boston Butt and we put it on the little cookerI'm afraid these wont fit...But this one will! This little guy wants to run HOTI didnt manage to get pictures after the cook, I was feeding 50 folks and it took all my energy to process everything else I had going. But with some adjustments I think I can get this thing running really well. I'm going to make a cedar table on wheels for it so I can wheel it in and out of the basement.Till next timeNGaHB
