First of all i would like to thank all for the advice on this cook.. Also a special thanks to Richard for coming over to help with my 4th of july party and pig cook.
The cook was a huge success, Porky cooked for about 14 hours at 225 with VERY LITTLE GREASE in the pan under the V-rack.
The Digi Q was my first use and I had a few problems with it shooting up to 250 put then it would come right back down but for the most part made this cook very easy. I would say i just need some time to get a feel for the seting on the damper.
once we pulled the we let it sit for about 30 min had a few photo ops and then opened it up the pork fell right off the bones and was super most and flavorfull. to recap i used apl chips and a light dry rub ( I would not change one thing for the next one!!
well enought with the typing and I will let the pics speak for them selfs enjoy and I hope every had a great 4th of July
I hope you all enjoyed the last few days of this post and i will be adding some addtional pics and so will Richard

Great pictures. Looks awesome!

There's something about a whole pig.......impressive and tasty! I bet it made your party very special.
-
Rob, thanks for the lead in. Thought you said next year a 50-60 pounder. This one was just 40. Some of the items Rob forgot was that this was his sixth 4th party and this year there were over 100 folks for the event, friends neighbors and just fun folks. After Porky Pig was introduced to the ravished crowd a few cases of shaving cream appeared. He also had 2 water slides and a snow cone maching for the folks.
Keeping with the BGE subject.
Back yard by the pool and fountain.
This was an EGGcellent meal, in addition to the MANY items brought by others.
And at the finally Rob had was an orchastrated 30 minute fireworks show in the park these wonderful folks lived around.
Thank You for a great event. -
That is one patriotic pig!! Looks excellent. What a great block party. I am moving there for next years 4th!!
Great job!
FaithHappily egging on my original large BGE since 1996... now the owner of 5 eggs. Call me crazy, everyone else does!

rzrrob: Been looking forward to these pics, as you know... . Looks fantastic...you certainly did porky justice! Looks like you got enough room in the egg for another 20 lbs or so...
Looks like a fabulous day, and a great time had by all. Thanks for posting. I enjoyed your stories over the last few days. -

Great ending to four great posts. The girls went wild on the shaving cream. I guess the whole hog was a complete success. Lots of family and friends and a beautiful day. Thanks for all the pic's. Tim :cheer:

From the pics Richard posted, it looks like everyone had a blast. Good for you!
We have an annual summer party with our friends and have been thinking about cooking a wee piggy too!
All the best!

Where did you put the meat probe and what place in the pig at what temp determined when to pull it out of the egg? Tim
-
Awesome pig roast! Amazing and congrats on a great job of providing pulled pork for the party. Looks like your XLarge Egg was happy with the whole pig cook, the first pic says it all.
Thanks for posting, I enjoyed the entire story. :cheer: -
Looks like you had fun at the party! I'm sure rzrrob appreciated all your help with the whole pig roast.
Maybe we can introduce shaving cream for next years Sunshine State Eggfest entertainment??? :woohoo: -
It looked great. Had to ask, though, cause I've had a problem making the skin crispy on a cook i did with pork belly.

We pulled just at 180 on the butt about 175 on the ham we did spin the pig at one point as one side was moving faster then the other and that worked out great
I had the probe in the butt the hole time and we would check the rest with a second thermo pin -
Very very nice
