I walked in from the bakery with about 25 minutes to go in the second half. There was a lot of discussion about the “no goal”. Towards the end I thought the ref was gonna run out of cards lol.

They got hosed alright. Two times ... the VAR call after a full minute of play, allowing the entire field to be run, exhausting the attackers, then Argentina scores after EXACTLY the same thing (tripping Egyptian player in the Argentina box to recover the ball) ... and the VAR is not used.

Of course a mental breakdown occurs when the unfairness is so flagrant and obvious. I don't blame them. That was Egypt's game. Had they allowed that goal, it would have been 3-0. All they would have had to do then is defend for 15 minutes ... and win the game. Mindset is completely different.

Too bad about Belgium having to switch keepers. You never know how the match would have gone but that rebound that led to the Morino (talk about a timely substitution) goal...

Haaland is a player that every fan wants in their team, and he has shown fragility in the past. He didn't turn up for the FA Cup final against Palace, for example.
He'll tear up the Euro's in a couple of seasons and Norway will be short odds for that already.

I don't see how FIFA has any credibility following this tournament, not that they really had any in light of the massive bribery surrounding the awarding of the 2022 tournament to Qatar.

Very proud of the Greensboro based Norwegian team. After taking an extremely biased red card and holding the defensive line for so long with a man down, they can hold their heads high.

It certainly does seem - and I’m a big time referee interference conspiracy believer across most sports - that the bias pushes this World Cup towards marquee teams that bring a lot of revenue. Don’t get me started on refs in NCAA “equalizing” teams for close games. The WC has a LOT of calls that seem harsher when it victimizes the underdog.

Through it all, I’m still rooting for France and for Messi. Mbappe and Messi (and Haaland and Modric) could be the faces of the sport, present and future. Lots to be said for them, on and off the field.

The red card for Norway was a result of the original issued yellow, then reviewed as a pure dive by Norway’s player. Yellow taken away from England and re-issued to Norway. He was completely untouched. Two yellow= one red card.

Totally agree. You cannot play 28 minutes (started around the 62 minute mark) plus stoppage time against the fire power of Argentina and succeed. Shoulda recognized the futility of his plan after the second half water break but nope.
When Harry Kane is playing full-up defense you have made gross tactical errors.
Pickford kept it close but the overwhelming assault was way too much.
At least FIFA didn't have the thumb on the scale regarding the officiating-behinds the scenes???⚽️💵💵

36 hours right of bang and I am about ready to process it.
That defeat against either of the other SF teams would have been lees painful.
It resonates with an absent 'finisher' mentality across a lot of sport here. We had Messi in a box and success down the flanks - and then we didn't. It has to come from inside each player and coach to know to press on.

The match on Saturday is traditionally a parade - curious to see who TT fields. Often they rotate for it, but he may try to prove a point and field the strongest team.
