OT: do you suppose 2026 just isn't my year? :OT

Back in February I posted this picture when I totaled my cherry 1995 Corvette with a mere 17k miles.

Then on March 1st I was taken to ER by ambulance where it was determined I had RSV plus pneumonia plus I had a nasty infection in the bones of my foot which led to a toe being amputated. That meant 19 days in the hospital only to be released to a skilled nursing home for another 19 days.

Meanwhile back in February I had sprung for a new Porsche Panamera which meant it sat in my garage until I was released to go home on April 7th.

Well - yesterday afternoon while traveling on a 4 lane highway some guy in a pickup for some reason decided to pull out of a side road directly in front of me! I'm sure my new Porsche was totaled or at least I do not want it back.

Thankfully both of us walked away unharmed - except I was and still am SUPER P*SSED!!!

2026 has not been a good year for me so far and I'm almost scared what else might be in store...but I don't know how to fast forward a year!

@RRP- I focus on positive but gotta admit you may need to take the remainder of the year off.  But I am reminded that things happen in threes so you have used your 2026 allotment.
Glad all involved are well but at you may want to get a thorough medical check out and should hire an attorney.  I'm no ambulance chaser but around a year ago my son was involved in quite an automobile collision with injuries (non life threatening) and the attorney was a great facilitator to deal with all the administrative and legal issues.
The other party's insurance company will get engaged so you want to be ready for that.

Ron, very glad you were still able to walk away from such an accident of this magnitude. Many people do not. It is a testament to how well built the Porsche was and the engineering to build a vehicle like that to fold properly to protect those in the cabin.

I agree with you, I would not want it back, and that is wise. Structural compromises have now been made, and once it is straightened back out and parts replaced, it will never be as safe as it once had been.

I would also recommend, if you have not done so already, to do exactly as Frank had suggested, acquire the services of an attorney.  Insurance companies will battle this out and the LAST thing you need this year is having to deal with that BS, and get yourself checked out by your doctor, to be sure there are zero health consequences.

I am sure your attorney will pursue not only all costs associated but also diminished value, should it be repaired and not a total loss.

Take it easy for a while, gather yourself, then go back at it and live the life you love.

    Stay safe, stay well.

I would say that’s totaled and I hope Allstate treats you better than me. Took me almost 4 months to get the payoff when I totaled the h2 sut to get payed before getting side swiped in the rover. Was good I switched to progressive because the collision place I wanted will not fix your vehicle  if Allstate is involved

Awful to read that, Ron. I feel like all these negative experiences means you must be due for some good luck before too long.

Wow, that is not good. Silver lining, all bad things happen in 3s ... you are done, rest of 2026 is clear and heading up!

Damn I'm sorry about all that, Ron (and so glad you're okay!).  As others have said, hopefully things are back on the way up now.

Glad you walked away and glad you had a newer car instead of all that old stuff you used to drive!  Suspect the positive outcome was due to the quality of your ride.

I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Ron!  This all sounds terrible.  But as others have said, I'm glad you're still on this side of the ground with us.

You might want to see if Army surplus has any Abrams tanks they can sell you for your next car though!

I spoke too soon. Amputated toe never healed and finally tests made May 27th showed  infection in foot bones had not been cured. New surgery performed May 30th and more last night, June 2nd! Release from hospital yet to be determined as I’ll need 42 days straight of a very strong antibiotic infused right above my heart via another PICC in arm.

Sorry if I am boring you…

I'm so sorry to hear about that Ron, having spent a lot of time in the hospital I know it isn't very fun.
