I plow snow, go to work, plow snow, go to bed.  I see the snow is supposed to quit by mid next week.  That will be nice!  A high of 0F tomorrow and a low of -10.  Windchill in the -25 to -35 range.

One month into 2026 and I’m already wondering where the time went. 2025 showed up, flew by, and somehow disappeared before I could catch my breath.

This Friday Norah is having knee surgery. She tore her PCL, meniscus, and patellar tendon during volleyball season last year.

She’s actually looking forward to it, ready to walk without pain and put in the work to rehab for her senior year.

When she graduates high school next year, she’ll also have completed 90 credit hours at the University of Akron. She’s decided to pursue a career in education she is assisting in a third-grade classroom, and absolutely loving it. At Akron, she’s been fortunate to begin taking classes that are specific to her major, which will position her to finish her undergraduate degree in just a year and then move straight into her master’s program.

@ryantt They grow up quickly.  Congratulations to Chef Norah Grace and her family for all the support.
Best of luck with the surgery.
All here were hoping she would pursue the professional chef career! Oh, well- =)

We right in the guts of the season now.  There’s churn in the table, turmoil at some clubs and the transfer window remains open - amplified by the rules about players free to negotiate with other suitors in the last 12 months of their contract.  So if they don’t confirm now that they will be in-situ in June (all contracts run from end of June) - then the shop is open for business.  Add in players jostling for the best method to assure selection for their nation at the World Cup, it’s simply exhausting!

West Ham vs Sunderland, a rare win last week could be the spark the Hammers need, it might be false dawn - but the travelling Maccems should be wary.   Tight affair, 1-1.

Burnley vs Spurs, better but not good enough recently the Clarets have to turn draws in to wins to keep within touching distance of safety.  But it’s Spurs, so you know how this goes. 1-2.

Fulham vs Brighton, 11th host 12th and that’s a fair assessment.  The Cottagers had stabilised and pretty much look rooted mid-table now.  The Filthies have not come in to effect really this season.  It smacks of draw, so another 1-1.

Man City vs Wolves, the visitors have been much much better - admittedly from a low base, but this is Citeh with fire in their bellies. 3-0

    Bournemouth vs Liverpool

    Sunday

Brentford vs Forest, not the game that forest needed - especially after an uncomfortable defeat in Europe last night.  The Bees have hit a rhythm and won’t miss this chance to shore up their top half status.  2-0

Palace vs Chelsea, ah, when will it end?  We’ve gone from doyen of the masses to clown car in a month.   It’s regression to the mean writ large and painfully so. Perhaps the slightly rocky condition at Chels’ will help, plus foul weather and we can cling on for a 0-0.

Newcastle vs Villa, fun match in store here as the Toon have found their stride and Villa are no 3rd by luck.  Tough to call but 5 goals tilted towards the hosts, 3-2.

Arsenal vs Man United,  fabulous start for the new guy at Utd last week with a derby victory.  But, the Gunner are in no mood to let up at the top and are looking really good for the title already. Bump back down to earth / dead cat bounce rebound, 2-0

Everton vs Leeds, a lower half obscurity but potentially a big step to safety for Leeds. 3 points here drags them to 28 points and a greta platform for survival, which felt remote in back in November.  But the Toffees have what it takes to manage the game on their terms. Feels like a 1-0.

OK, I’m off to flick through a brochure for apartments overlooking the eastern edge of the Mediterranean.

I don’t know, realtors probably rack up. Then there are all of the duplicate home furnishings for the new place.
My niece in Texas is going through much of the same thing. Note : never marry an unemployed person. He never kept a job for more than a few months. Now that she booted him out it’s amazing, he’s employed. Lots of other details of course but those are her business.

    Oh crap,  yes.
Bournemouth v Liverpool, the newly crowned draw specialists travel to the dismal Cherries.  Much talk of player sales on both sides but really the hosts need to start shoring up their position after a flying start until about late October.  The Reds should have enough for this one - and of course Mo Salah is back and a brace form hime means all is forgiven,  0-2.

Generator test run with a load. Gonna get squirrelly this weekend.

Looks about the same size as my A-iPower, bought it couple of years ago and it's still untouched in the box.

Prior to this one I had a crappy one that was primed and ready, it sat in the garage and was never needed in at least a decade. It died on me eventually due to neglect, I ended up selling it after getting it fixed for cheap.

I'm too lazy to maintain it year after year, so the plan is to put off the chore as long as I can. Hopefully it'll work when the need arises. It's a risk I'm willing to take since I cannot recall any significant blackout since the Northeast blackout of August 2003, touch wood.

    Stay safe everyone.

putting backsplices on my jute/hemp rope after putting it off for years. no more yellow duct tape.  Had to refresh on the crown knot, but after that it all came back like riding a bicycle after 50 years. Good thing I kept my scout handbook.

i get given so much food and treats for Christmas that by the time I finish them all it will be Easter and I will have the same shape as an egg. Rather fitting I think.

Driving to Salida, Co for skiing. Made a detour to Farmington, NM for one of my favorite Thai places.  They offer spices 1-5 and Thai Style.  We get Thai style, just the right amount of heat.  Doesn’t impact flavor but adds a visceral sense to the dish.

That part of the southwest has an odd number of unusually good Thai restaurants, in addition to some real gems of hole-in-the-wall joints.  I love the terrain around northern NM/ southern CO too.  Hope the skiing’s good!

@alaskanassasin  Yep- very light. Started around 2:30 .  Total accumulation around 1/4-3/8" so far.  Given the air temp (12*F) it is dry powder and will remain that for the duration.
Good luck with this.  Stay safe out there.

Small flakes = big snow. They are calling for 10-14” here, that would be the most snow I have seen in a while

Good luck with it! I have enjoyed two straight days of no snowfall. It has been a nice break.  The trade-off was the temperature drop.

  • Double threat over here. -40C and up to 20cm snow. All in the same dang day.
