Wait until she sees your tooling expenses, haha. You best learn how to make her something nice for your first project.CTMike said:
The AltMill is obviously a 3-axis machine, but I also opted for the rotary attachment which will accept objects up to 4" in diameter. I also opted for the 12 tool Automatic Tool Changer (ATC) so I think it is about as close to a commercial type machine as I can get within the budget set by SWMBO.lousubcap said:
You potential CNC guys are taking home manufacturing to a whole new level. As is the case with everything, the technology, availability and price point have dropped to a consumer reasonable level.paqman said:Not buying anything right now but I think that I want to purchase a CNC machine. 🤔
I recall buying a commercial grade 6-axis Locatelli CNC machine (turning precise MLB baseball bats) for orders of magnitude more back around 15-18 years ago.
You will reap the initial investment if you stay the course. -
My first Project is going to be an inlaid cutting board like this (different inlay design though):

MMBGE / Large BGE / XL BGE (Craigslist Find) / SF30x80 cabinet trailer - "Ol' Mortimer" / Outdoor kitchen in progress.

We live in a small house and I don’t have a shop/garage so it needs to fit on a bench in the basement. I was initially going to get a very cheap small 3-axis from Amazon and then the online spam started… I almost pulled the trigger on a Makera Z1 (kickstarter) but then I read that it is likely not powerful enough. Makera also makes the Carvera Air with a quick manual tool changer and a higher end Carvera with ATC and other upgrades. I am likely going to order the Carvera Air but I am overwhelmed by all the other options available.CTMike said:

Look at the Longmill by Sienci. The AltMill also comes in a 2' x 4' version. .paqman said:
