About to attempt to clean the oven. I sprayed some Easy Off in it last night before we went up stairs for the night. My son, in his infinite wisdom, saw all the racks removed on top of the stove and decided that he should turn the oven on to cook some midnight corn dogs.

It sounds like your son should be cleaning the oven. Btw those corn dogs must have tasted awful.

He turned the oven on and a short time later he came up and asked why the oven was smoking so much. 🤦‍♂️

he’s a good kid, just not that bright. Guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Saga continues: You know who told CPA in March I was not to be spoken to, now they told her they need to “review” whether they want to work with her.  No tax questions getting answered, ex hasn’t updated the bookkeeper since August, and CPA is quitting.  This gonna be fun.

Also garage at my current house was broken into and a bunch of my tools stolen, my partner’s tools stolen, and my ARB portable air compressor in a box was stolen.  Kind of bummed about it.

I guess that rat is fleeing a sinking ship. That or he’s catching the flak since you aren’t available. Anyway it goes you were involved part of the year.

  • Prepping.

Hosting two gatherings this weekend. The first is two couples who are neighbours on Friday night. Second is for a friend and his family on Sunday night. Rather than have to prep for the two occasions, I suggested to my wife that we replicate the cook for the two gatherings, which keeps things much simpler for both shopping and prep.

Menu will be choice of cocktails - either aperol spritz or whiskey sours, apps of olives and nuts (to keep it light), then a green salad with fried goat cheese and berries with balsamic vinaigrette. Flemish stew with roasted baby potatoes and veg for the main (getting cold here, so a rich stew is comforting). Homemade fudgy brownies and homemade strawberry miso ice cream for dessert.

For the Flemish stew, I opted to buy a whole packer, trim it and section it out.

Nice bag of deliciousness you got there @alaskanassasin. Hope you descaled the skin so it won't be discarded? Also make sure you have non-stick foil  ;) j/k Looking forward to the outcome.

@GrateEggspectations - Flemish stew is a new one to me.  Learn something new dang near every day here.  With you and your wife's prowess I am sure there are 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ banquets in the queue for the weekend.

Boiling 40 lbs of potatoes for mashed potatoes. Nice being able to use our churches kitchen that has a couple stoves to cut down time.

Thanks Cap! Recipe is really simple and incredibly delicious. I make it a few times of year once the cold weather hits.

Am I the only one who didn't know what a potato ricer was until a few days ago? An absolute game changer with mash potatoes. No peeling the potato prior and creates fluffy potatoes for mashed potatoes.

@WeberWho Agree totally. Full disclosure: For years we mashed manually until few years ago. Yours truly had a brain fart and decided to use an electric hand mixer, the potatoes turned into glue and burned out the motor :) Switched to ricer and never looked back.

Grew up with a ricer and never used it as a basis for mashed - only for riced potatoes. As a young lad, was usually pressed into service for this task.

I’m not going to lie.  It felt pretty amazing.  Off for the next couple of weeks. Going to take a couple of trips to Mexico with my wife. One for her work and one during Christmas with the family.   The look on their faces when I did it was priceless.  All the stress and anxiety of that place is gone.
Congrats! Bet you wish you could have caught that moment on camera.
