I was one week into the academy eight years ago today, listening to radio traffic for the biggest mass shooting in American history. Sad I couldn’t be there. Sad for the lives lost. It is a somber day around these parts.

Greed, drought in corn lands,  land being bought by anti beef activists(check Bill Gates), land bought by China, the merger of beef processing plants into much fewer numbers, and of course tariffs.

The all conquering Liverpool beaten and only one team remains unbeaten,  is this the year of the Eagle?  Well, in context yes but in terms of titles, no.  Elsewhere, Man Utd remain listless and it’s got to be matter of days now before Amorim gets the shove, Villa are slowly awakening, Ange has brought the noise to Forest - mainly boos so far.  Wolves have their first point, Burnley have slipped in to the bottom three - and that’s not a good sign for a newly promoted team.

    Saturday

Leeds vs Spurs, spirited match likely with both fancying this one.   Spurs have had the better start to the season, but home advantage levels this up. 1-1

Arsenal vs West Ham, the signs are better for the Hammers with Nuno at the helm but the Gunners are on a roll and have plenty of tools in their box to get this one done. 2-0

Man United vs Sunderland, could this be the last match for Amorim? Not impossible at all, however, the owners are more focussed on the company accounts so they will time the sacking and succession when fiscally prudent.  The Maccems could be heading back over the Pennines with three points and a frankly absurd top 4 position in the table. 0-1

Chelsea vs Liverpool, game of the weekend? The Chels’ bounced back from two debates on the bounce to beat Benfica in the week, no mean feat, and the Reds have lost their last two - so a test of character awaits. 1-1

     Sunday

Villa vs Burnley, two points separate the teams going in to the match but I reckon that’ll be five two hours later.  The Villains have been weak, a rare flat spot in Emery’s reign. The Clarets started well but are losing their way. 2-0

Everton vs Palace, we live in peculiar times. A win last night in Europe progressed the mighty Eagle’s unbeaten run to 19 games and they never looked like that changing across the whole 90 minutes.  Playing twice per week will catch up with us at some point, but it helps the squad are pulling their weight and the team looking no weaker when the subs come on. Toffees are strong at their new home but lack firepower, while have the tightest defence in the league.  If we don’t score it will be 0-0, the stats / AI all say away win and my superstitions say the opposite, of course.  Meh 0-1 but that was painful to type.

Newcastle vs Forest, Toon have never really nailed down the super-rich high roller image.  A cup last year was nice for them but not comparable to the weight of expectation that Saudi money brings,  and their bets players are still attracted to the established top clubs. Forest did great last year but the mad-cap owner fell out with Nuno and brought in mad-cap Ange, so it’s going to be helter-skelter from now on.  Toon need the win, but that is not assured.  Forest fans need the win, but that’s not how it works.  2-2

Wolves vs Brighton, a point! Behold one point.  Wolves are out of the traps at snails pace. The filthy Seagulls are playing result roulette with two of each type so far. The stats will tell you away win, but I reckon this is another draw for Wolves as they shore up their defence and  ‘respect the point’. 0-0

Brentford vs Man City, it’s no longer odd to see Citeh in 7th place.  The lustrous sparkle of Pep has got verdigris in the last 18 months. Yes they have the strongest squad but there’s a kink in the program.  The Bees are stubborn at home and if,  that’s a big if, Haaland is kept quiet then this could be slim pickings for Pep’s lads. 1-1

The temperature has dropped here and I am presently weighing leaf clearance with mowing, this weekend. That’s the high stakes I play with. I might combine the two! I know, it’s crazy right.   But, a decent pork loin for Egg roasting awaits me on Sunday. Huzzah!

Other girls may try to take me away
But you know, it's by your side I will stay

Enjoying life.  14 mile hike yesterday, summated two 9,000+ peaks, stumbled into a free diner at a restaurant with a soft opening for friends and family, then Kartchner Caverns today, and followed up with some wine tasting - life is good my friends.

Going to see an incredible musician tonight - French-Algerian guitarist Pierre Bensusan. He was the teacher of one of my teachers and is a real musician’s musician. Always puts on an incredible show. Taking my main squeeze and having dinner beforehand.
Currently listening to Pierre Bensusan while making a Marco Pierre White Pigeon dish.

Thank you for sharing, music is perfect for a relaxing Sunday.

    Great to hear, Ozzie!

It’s funny…. His music is so tranquil and lyrical, but it’s among the hardest stuff I’ve ever learned. Nobody plays like him.

My only caution - I don’t really care for his singing, but it is sparse in his compendium.

The Altiplanos album is excellent. A lot of gems among his tunes.

Wife just left to take our youngest to a concert, some fella named Hozier. My daughter is obsessed with his music. Who has a concert on a Sunday? I must officially be old.

Awesome that she’s into music. Work Song for the win. A powerful tune; mighty divine with the speakers pinned.
