Has anyone used Turo to rent a car? If so, how was that experience?
My son runs a turo business on the side. It's going to depend on the "host" if you will. He runs about ten cars and they are gone almost all the time. You're basically renting from a private individual. Turo has standards.  I think they do somewhat frequent video walk around meetings to ensure appearance.

  • Someone’s favourite (nod) shipping company was supposed to deliver some packages to a neighbour’s place, with signature, from L.A. The neighbours are French nationals currently on travel. We’ve had our driveway repaved earlier this week, so have asked to park there for the week while they’re gone. Yesterday, we see a massive pile of boxes sitting on their doorstep. The company had reportedly missed the shipping window prior to their departure, and upon leaving, the neighbours instructed the company to withhold delivery until their return. Our neighbours did not receive a response to that request, and the delivery was made absent their signature. We’ve since stowed the packages away. Neighbours describe their experience with the company as “une calamité”.

Standard practice for the five lettered outfit.  Turns out your driveway paving project saved them and deterred any porch pirates. Better to be lucky than good comes to mind.  Understand the French quote.  They are being too kind!

Yeah, we are going on a little vacation next week and bringing all the “kids”. First time we have all gone together in like 5 years. With 2 now adult children, we have outgrown our vehicles. Rental cars are so dang expensive, Turo seemed like a reasonable option to get a minivan.

Two Whole Paycheques in town are closing down in two weeks for different reasons, one due to poor sales, the other relocating to less $pendy location.

Their 50% off entire store sales started today, we got to the closer one first thing in the morning, it was super busy but not too bad. Turned into a madhouse when we were leaving...multi level parking lots full, >1 hr lineup to get in, >1 hr lineup to cash out. Mind you, it was calm and civilised, all things considered. Amazingly there was just one worker wearing apron controlling the number of customers entering the store, I did not see any uniformed security guards.

Meat bunkers were empty, we loaded up on vitamins, supplements and a bunch of random stuff. Some folks were loading up like it was FREE 😂
Edit: 90% of shoppers was Asians but IMO the smartest shopper was this white dude with a whole shopping cart of booze 😂 Why? Everything there is overpriced but booze price is liquor board controlled.

The Man in the Blue Shorts™ brought me a nice surprise from the US Treasury, a cheque (nod, eh?) for $662.07.  No letter, note or anything, I do see "12/2023 Tax Refund" printed on the check, but no explanation anywhere about what it is.  Better than a kick in the shorts, anyway.

EDIT:  Hmm, I think I know what it is now.  I had a new HVAC system installed in '23, but forgot to tell the H&R Block folks about it at the end of the year.  I mentioned it to them when I had my taxes done for '24, and I sent in the required paperwork.  They never acknowledged receipt, nor sent me notification they'd completed it, nor sent me any kind of bill (not like them); I eventually kind of forgot about it.
I'm thinking they did send in the amended '23 return, and either forgot to bill me or waived it.

Good to hear that @Botch. Speaking of home improvement, is the wiring for the tankless water heater complete?

Yes, and Thank You, I got a message from them to schedule another inspection by the state, completely forgot about that!
One thing that surprises me is it takes a lot longer for hot water to arrive at any faucet upstairs; I woulda thought it would be about the same time (preheated water starting in the basement vs instantly-heated water starting in the basement), but it takes about a minute longer for my shower or kitchen sink to get hot water (first-world problems, to be sure).

Went to the kitchen to start getting burgers ready to grill. Told Alexa to play classic rock. First song up was Pour Some Sugar On Me. I really am getting old.

Posted this before... I installed the recirculating pump upstairs under a sink furthest from the water heater. It's powered by a smart plug, we just tell Alexa or Google to turn on the hot water for x minutes on demand, this gives us almost instant hot water. This works well without running a pipe through floor(s) and wall(s) to the heater.

No, I'm almost 1500miles due north from Biloxi. Maybe someday I will make it down there. Always wanted to see New Orleans and that area. Crawfish are one of my favorites too, and I expect there is no shortage in your neck of the woods.

If you ever do head this way give me a shout and maybe I can give you a tour of the gulf coast. Weather permitting we will ride out to the islands if you like that sort of stuff.  If nothing else you can stop by casa de Horton and we will whip something up to eat.

Thanks for the more than generous offer. I may someday take you up on that. If you ever come north of the border and want to walleye fish, I have a ton of remote spots that are full of fish.

Stopped by here after completing power restoration duties following a 7+ hour outage starting at 8 PM EDT Tuesday night.  Pop up T'storm with some good winds took down tree limbs and associated power lines.
    Now back to bed.

@lousubcap, Did you expect a delivery from that five letter delivery company this week?  If so they might have not realize that KY goes along ways.

I ordered a 3 bag pack of Rockwood late last week and Amazon gave me a deilvery of Mon this week, fine.  then a bag arrived Sat, tracked it and the tracking looked the same as had before.  Then I noticed that it was shipped by fedex.

Then a fedex pulled truck pulled into 250' driveway and the driver didn't even get out and he left leaving nary a thing.

Then TUES they came back with one big box that looked like it had been runover by a semi.

I kept getting emails from Amazon wanting to rate the seller, tried to tell them that it wasn't the sellers fault and the next purchase I made, I would track a couple of days and then cancel the order.

Maybe the man who supposed to be running that place should pull his face out of CHEETO'S ass and make sure I get my charcoal.  That' all I got to say bout dat.

felt sorry for a new fedex driver a few weeks back. my road is a dead end, just before my house he took a hard left up a hill. back bumper hit the pavement hard enough to lift the back wheels off the ground =) stuck stuck stuck. his first day driving solo on the job......should have taken a pic for the forum
