@FrostyEgg Did you end up getting one? I am considering getting one too. Looking for feedback from someone who has one.FrostyEgg said:Pondering picking up a new Weber Slate griddle. They're getting solid reviews.
I haven't picked one up yet. This year is getting away from me, way too busy with work/kids etc.
FWIW, they've been getting really great reviews, and everyone i've seen post on Reddit about them has great things to say too. When i'm ready to pull the trigger it's still at the top of my list. -

6x10 enclosed cargo trailer to Frankenstein a mobile cooler trailer. Also a window unit and a thermo bot controller.
Long standing pizza customer opening a second location about 20 minutes from me (current one is less than 5 with traffic). Need to be able to haul frozen dough the 20 minutes with little to no thaw.Plan is to spray foam insulate walls and ceiling. Install window unit and bot. Leave plugged in 24/7 running as cold as it will go and deliver before sunrise.
Best part is my F150 has generator built in. It’ll run while traveling to and from restaurant. -
Sounds like a beautiful cross-over opportunity for you and @Ikapigian !ColbyLang said:6x10 enclosed cargo trailer to Frankenstein a mobile cooler trailer. Also a window unit and a thermo bot controller.

Okay I posted that on 6 June. About a month later I got a letter from the installer, asking me to contact the City admin for an inspection, so they could keep their certification. I thought I had posted about this, but couldn't find it; they did an okay installation but, with no AC outlet near the HVAC/water heater, they ran the wire across the floor to a spare bed junkroom and plugged it into the wall there; WTF??Botch said:They talked me into a tankless, and I need a couple other things to meet current code. Told me UT had the hardest water in the US, and current water heater tanks only last 2 to 4 years, getting an 8-year warrantee with the tankless. Hearing the final quote that was 2.5 times the 3 quotes I had gotten over the phone, was just kind've an unexpected punch.
Mine hasn't failed yet, but it's making more and more of a racket every time it kicks on, decided to be prudent; they'll be here Monday.
City admin guy got here, I walked him downstairs and mentioned the "wiring" issue; does that even meet code? He looked at all the plumbing, then the wiring, and mumbled, "Oh yeah, that ain't gunna work" and took a couple photos. He did confirm that I made a good decision with getting a tankless, so that made me feel a bit better.
This morning got a message from the installer, "We need to wire up your tankless-bla-bla, then the sentence I was hoping for: "We will do this at no cost to you." YES! I'll set up the follow-up tomorrow, and then be able to ask for a free estimate to run 230V to my woodshop, right across from the heater. One less Stress Point removed...
EDIT: Wanted to add, I'm not normally a fan of bureaucracy and red tape, but sometimes (as above) it protects us little guys. I'm seeing more and more examples of this in the news, but I'll stop here.

@Botch you posted this in the WAYDN(2025) thread on June 9. Glad to hear it's getting resolved.Botch said:Sigh.
Got my new tankless water heater installed today. Guys showed up ten minutes into their 4-hour window (definitely not cable guys) and were finished in about 4 hours, nice job of cleaning up. They showed me the features, and when the sales guy told me I'd need a "water treatment" component ahead of the heater, I was expecting a water softener like my folks had; instead it was an in-line "ionizer" in the incoming water line, about the size of a straight banana, no mx required.
Showed me how to adjust the temp with the electric controller, but then learned they couldn't find an outlet in the unfinished portion of my basement, and ran its cord into my basement bedroom (ie junk room) and just plugged it into the wall. I don't close the door to that room, so it probably shouldn't matter, but that doesn't sound at all like it meets Code. My new HVAC system is right next to the new heater, and IT was tied right into my wiring, why not this water heater??
I haven't found the appropriate section yet in my copy of the NEC, but it's dated 1986, so I should either buy a new copy or just call an electrician.
Sigh.canuckland -

Not buying but find this interesting, kind of like a poor man's PK Grill. Two vents on the lid, two vents on the fire box, split level charcoal trays with adjustable height, access doors to the charcoal trays. I wouldn't call it smart though. Probably not selling well, hence the 1/2 price sale.

Yeah, I spent probably 1-1.5 hours on the phone with support 4 or 5 times. They always had me trying the same things. It was painful. The wife agreed that the new speakers sound much better, and once we get some speaker stands she’ll be happy with the way things look.paqman said:
@Acn The Sonos update last summer was a nightmare. What ended up working for me was to do a factory reset + update the speaker firmware using the computer software/application rather than the mobile phone application. Days wasted on the phone with Sonos support… terrible, terrible, terrible.Acn said:Got some speakers on sale for Prime days. Was going to need them later in the year anyway when I start bringing some of my Dad’s LPs from Maine to MD, but Sonos hasn’t been able to figure out why the system can’t find the music on my laptop for some 7-8 months, and the system is getting very glitchy when steaming from Spotify, so it is time to go back to wired speakers and a Bluetooth amp.Plus, now that we’re back in the office full-time, my wife’s office space is transitioning back to living space and the sooner I lay a claim the more likely it is that my input is listened to.
As An added bonus, some other things in the living room that (to my eyes) were just clutter are being moved out, so it’s a win all the way around for me.LBGE

Going to Antarctica in a couple months, got a new pair of wool socks to add to my collection and a tether to keep my phone from flying off the zodiac. Any tips for a visit to Antarctica in “summer” would be appreciated! As a Floridian who is more “at home” in the Sahara I’m more afraid of the cold than anything.

Antarctica is technically a desert, so maybe you’ll be at home there too!
What takes you on the trip? Seems like a really cool experience (no pun intended). -

Just going for a vacation, all tips are appreciated. I will up my undergarment game and look into new sunglasses. With my luggage weight limit I doubt my MM will be allowed, but I love the idea of being “that jerk” on the ice.

@BeanHead no tips but push your company. It will have recommendations for proper outfitting that you can bring. I'm quite sure the company will also have the "above and beyond gear" if it comes to that. Should the tour offer the add-on for the submarine ride, go for it. You will never be in that window of opportunity again. Easy for me to upcharge your CC and $$. It's a forum thing!Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. Wool is right. Some great merino wool base layers and even underwear out there.
Smith has great lenses, including some glacier glasses and some hybrid that have the polarized lenses and removable side flaps. I don't think the full glacier glasses are polarized normally. You want sub 10% VLT on ice like that.Check out the Smith Embark - they have polarized models for everyday, and the glacier designated ones that are not polarized, but they adjust automatically from 7-45% VLT depending on how bright it is.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -
I just came by to say the automatically adjusting sunglasses.Legume said:Wool is right. Some great merino wool base layers and even underwear out there.

@BeanHead what month and what company are you going with? Several allow you to rent all kinds of things like boots, cameras with good and all types of lenses, your outermost layer etc…
Other than the “normal” things you would think of items we were told to bring that are game changers and less thought of: crocks if on a cruise (for the walk from your stateroom to the changing room where you put your boot and shells on just before disembarking), trekking poles if at all unstable on your feet ( I can recommend a good pair which are light, collapse small, and inexpensive but your outfitter may also supply them). little kid glove/mitten clip tether so you can pop off your glove to take a picture and just let the glove go and not worry about it hitting the ground or tucking it away. Remember, anything that hits the ground has to be “sanitized”. Finally, a baseball hat. Sounds silly, but the brim keeps the winter hood from dropping in front of your eyes if the hood is too big. You also want a tether for your baseball hat… wind there is no joke.--------------------------------------------------

Excellent suggestions, I had no idea some of these things existed (I was 22 before seeing snow and I’m still not a fan). The trip is in December on Viking. They provide a lot of stuff for us and have some suggestions but not as detailed as the guidance you all have been providing! As @lousubcap mentioned you folks are very helpful at keeping the economy churning with forum inspired spending (and a sub ride is 100% on my to do list).

Yes. Supposedly super strict. You have to sanitize your boots before and after going out on land/ice/snow. They do not want you to bring anything there not take anything with you when you leave.Headed there myself in Nov/Dec with National Geographic on Lindbald Expeditions.I am on a waitlist to dive there with an expedition team. Does not look like anything was really going to happen with this dream now, but learned what was required. All equipment had to be given to the team for sanitizing upon boarding. They would then soak and sanitize all the gear, including inside the BC and sign a waver they were not responsible for my gear. This was all in hopes that I would be some persons donkey and haul or hold gear when they were doing their thing. Even had to have a divemaster asses my skills locally before being put on the list. But it does not look like that will happen now. Bummed big time. But it did save me about $4k on heated gear to wear under my drysuit and other toys. Still would have done it in a heartbeat though. I find out for sure on 9/1 if a diving expedition is a Go/NoGo.--------------------------------------------------

Sounds like a fantastic opportunity. We looked at NatGeo/Lindblad, but the dates did not line up like we needed. Fingers crossed you get to dive!
