    Tuesday TRUMP ADMINISTRATION LITIGATION

"A federal judge yesterday expanded its earlier preliminary injunction blocking the Trump administration from enforcing a policy that would prevent many Planned Parenthood clinics that offer abortion services from receiving Medicaid reimbursements. In her order, the judge stated that the enforcement of the policy could infringe Planned Parenthood’s First Amendment rights and amount to an unconstitutional “legislative punishment.” Zach Montague reports for the New York Times.

A coalition of 21 states and the District of Columbia yesterday filed a lawsuit arguing that the Agriculture Department’s demand for states to surrender sensitive information about millions of food stamp recipients violates federal privacy laws and the U.S. Constitution. The lawsuit alleges that the demand appears to be part of an effort to collect information that can be used to “advance the president’s agenda on fronts that are wholly unrelated to SNAP program administration” such as immigration enforcement. Benjamin Weiser and Zach Montague report for the New York Times."

    Wednesday TRUMP ADMINISTRATION LITIGATION

"A group of organizations yesterday filed a complaint challenging the Trump administration’s executive order terminating the collective bargaining rights of many federal workers. The plaintiffs allege that the executive order violates the separation of powers, the First Amendment, the Fifth Amendment, and the Administrative Procedure Act.

The state of Washington yesterday filed a complaint challenging the administration’s termination of the Shelter and Services Program (SSP),arguing the termination of the grant program that allows states to provide essential services to noncitizen migrants violates the Spending Clause and the Administrative Procedure Act. Thursday TRUMP ADMINISTRATION LITIGATION

"A federal judge yesterday ordered the Trump administration to explain how it plans to restore Voice of America’s operations by August 13. “Without more explanation, the court is left to conclude that the defendants are simply trying to run out the clock on the fiscal year, without putting the money Congress appropriated toward the purposes Congress intended,” the judge wrote in the order. David Bauder reports for AP News.

A federal judge yesterday certified a challenge to the Trump administration’s attempt to suspend the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program as a class action suit. The ruling opens a route for the plaintiffs in the case to seek a nationwide injunction compelling the government to unfreeze the program. Mattathias Schwartz reports for the New York Times.

A group of House Democrats yesterday filed a complaint against what they allege are the Trump administration’s illegal attempts to limit in-person congressional oversight visits to federal immigration detention facilities. Maegan Vazquez and Michael E. Miller report for the Washington Post.

Democracy Forward and the National Women’s Law Center on Tuesday filed a complaint against the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, arguing the Commission and its acting chair, Andrea Lucas, are violating federal civil rights law, the Constitution, and Supreme Court precedent by declining to process discrimination complaints raised by transgender workers. Brooke Migdon reports for the Hill."

    Friday TRUMP ADMINISTRATION LITIGATION

"A federal judge yesterday extended an injunction prohibiting the Trump administration from ending deportation protections for more than 60,000 migrants from Nepal, Honduras and Nicaragua. Under the DHS’ current policies, the migrants “are told to atone for their race, leave because of their names, and purify their blood,” the judge wrote, with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s statements “stereotyping the T.P.S. program and immigrants as invaders that are criminal” and “perpetuat[ing] the discriminatory belief that certain immigrant populations will replace the white population.” “Color is neither a poison nor a crime,” the judge added. Zach Montague reports for the New York Times.

A federal judge yesterday issued an injunction permanently barring the Trump administration from imposing penalties on two law professors over their involvement with the International Criminal Court, finding that the move violated their First Amendment rights. Zach Montague reports for the New York Times."

Funny how the jobs numbers are fine until they aren't.  Just a different means to the same end as all those incredibly smart people joining the administration and then becoming so dumb after a year or so that they want to leave or are told to leave.

The only bright spot here is, if the stock market continues to drop, and int'l trade continues to shrink, the oligarchs will demand... change.  And I'm sure every congressman we have right of the aisle is wondering right now, who they need to please the most: the oligarchs or the orange stain.  I'm hoping the oligarchs will clarify for them quite soon.

@fishlessman - totally agree with your post above but until now the Commissioner was never fired for the data.  Sad when you cannot accept facts and need to fire the messenger.  Talk about the fragile public face.

Interesting piece on Trump’s mental decline:

    https://thehill.com/opinion/campaign/5429516-trump-confabulation-dementia-signs/

I’ve actually been skeptical of the notion he’s already in decline, because the fact of the matter is that he’s old.  And you put anyone that old on camera all the time, you will catch them making mistakes.  My wife and I have parents in their eighties who are just fine, and we catch them making lots of mistakes.  On some level it’s just part of aging, not necessarily an indicator of cognitive decline that signals incoming dementia.

But Trump fabricating a story about his uncle teaching the unabomber might actually be a sign of something different.  I’d just written that off as Trump being Trump, someone who lies with every breath, but there’s a chance it’s something else entirely.  Anyway, the fact that The Hill published this opinion piece is remarkable in its own right.  I think it’s worth your time.

Solid read.  Thanks for the link.  Doubt it will get much MSM traction but one can hope.

    Monday TRUMP ADMINISTRATION LITIGATION

"A federal appeals court on Friday authorized Trump to move forward with a component of his order instructing a broad swath of government agencies to end collective bargaining with federal unions while a lawsuit against the effort proceeds. The court ruled that while some of the White House’s statements on the motivations behind the order “reflect a degree of retaliatory animus” towards unions who launched lawsuits against Trump’s policies, Trump had authority to implement such a move on national security grounds and the “government has shown that the president would have taken the same action even in the absence” of the legal challenges. Chris Cameron reports for the New York Times.

Also on Friday, a federal appeals court upheld a lower court’s order temporarily blocking the Trump administration from carrying out indiscriminate immigration stops and arrests in Southern California on the basis of race, language, location, and job. Responding to the ruling, a DHS spokesperson accused “unelected judges” of “undermining the will of the American people.” Vivian Ho reports for the Washington Post.

A federal judge on Friday temporarily blocked the Trump administration from carrying out expedited removals of immigrants who had previously been paroled into the United States to flee violence and oppression in their home countries, ruling that plaintiff migrants and others in their position “face imminent, irreparable injury from those actions that outweighs any harm to the Government or the public.” Kyle Cheney, Josh Gerstein, and Myah Ward report for POLITICO.

Officials from 16 states and Washington D.C. on Friday filed a lawsuitseeking to block the Trump administration’s investigations into hospitals and doctors who provide transition-related care to minors. The lawsuit argues that the administration’s threats to prosecute such providers constitute efforts to institute a national ban on puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and surgeries for transgender minors with no Congressional approval. Jo Yurcaba reports for NBC News."
