I’d start a “Don’t Do This” thread but we have enough generic threads on the main page.

Conveniently left off that quote is what he said right after it, which is that he now feels very differently.

Guy that didn't go to college has strong feelings about a college. Sounds like 90% of Alabama fans.

It really is an out of context quote.  He goes on to talk about playing for Coach K on Team USA and now Redick on the Lakers, how much respect he has for them both, etc.  I watched the whole thing and he really didn’t have any shade to throw in the end.  It was more of a “I didn’t know what I was talking about in my younger years” type thing.

In general, my charcoal burning meat enthusiast friends, I would eschew the triviality of the FA Cup quarter finals and not detain you, but..   I know you’ve been pining and there’s a potential shark in the water, in the shape of an elephant in the room.

    Saturday

Fulham v Palace, neither team have realistic ambitions for Europe this season except for winning this Cup. Six points between these two in the league, largely due to the mighty Eagles poor start to the season.  Both teams have enjoyed a long break and will either have lost momentum or come back fresh as a daisy. Tough to call, one goal either way has it.  I foresee Palace losing in the next round, as is their custom.  1-2

Brighton v Forest, can you see the shark shaped elephant now?  Forest having the better season and must decide whether to commit to this match to sustain form, or ease back to shepherd resources for the league - and CL qualification. The latter is an act of hubris in my opinion and they have to go for this.  The filthy self-entitled fetid Seagulls believe they are due silverware, therefore I hope they get walloped - and so the elephant shaped shark is averted, i.e Palace don’t lose to them in either the semi’s or worse still the final.  1-1, then 4-5 on penalties.

    Sunday

Preston North End v Villa, yes that’s their name. Quite why they need the compass specificity in their moniker is lost in the mists of time.  Then again, why the Brummies have added a Roman structure to their name is unclear too.  Anyhoo, 0-3 and proof there is no romance left in the Cup.

Bournemouth v Man City, would have been harder to call 6 weeks ago - but the Cherries have flatlined and Pep has restored some level of reliability to the misfiring Manc’s. Pride over passion, 0-2.

Not too much to detain you there, but sequential kick-offs mean you can dissolve in to your safe of choice for 5 hours straight on both days.  OK, must get back to deleting my group chats.

Other girls may try to take me away
But you know, it's by your side I will stay

Im about a day ahead of you guys. So far, not as much as predicted, but there's another smaller scale storm in the forecast for Sunday and Wednesday as well.

Funny how weather works.   I live in a snow belt, possibly one of the snowiest areas in Alberta, yet so far we have received perhaps one cm of snow total.  2 hours north and accumulations are approaching 30cms (around a foot) of fresh snow.

It is on the cool side though.  Over 15C this past week, now -5C.  Cruising weather is still a ways away for us.

Not as exciting as oil filter acting up but learned something new. It's also Friday night!

Done grocery shopping this afternoon and the van key woundn't turn; the steering wheel was TIGHT with zero play. Thought of searching the interwebz or calling CAA (aka AAA), then told myself to RTFM first. Bingo!

I recall making a tight right turn into the parking space before shutting off the van, would be interesting to see if I can re-enact it.

I'm also wondering what would the tow truck guy do?  Would he know the simple fix? Even if he does, would he be honest enough to not tow my vehicle? I guess it also depends on his compensation arrangement with CAA.

This happened to me too, but it was ~35 years ago with a rental car in (iirc) Ft Walton Beach (I KNOW it was in FL somewhere).  No manual in the glove compartment, so I went back into the strip club and called the rental car agency on the pay phone (this was before cellphones) and they told me the same, I hung up, walked out and tried it, and got back to the hotel safely.
    Interesting long-term memories!

Not picking on you @Canugghead, but this happened to me last summer too.  My truck battery had died, and the hood release (from the cabin) didn't work.  I fumbled around the lid and grill for about 45 minutes, couldn't find a way to release the latch from the outside.
Finally called a tow truck guy, I explained the situation, and just needed it hauled to the dealer about 5 minutes away.  He said, "Let me try something" and forced his way between the hood and the chromed-plastic grill; I almost made him stop (the grill looked like it was ready to snap) but then he said "Got it!" and popped the hood!
He said he had to charge me at least $35 for the "service call", and I tipped him an extra twenty because it would've cost a lot more had he towed me.
Guys who do the Right Thing instead of pursuing maximum profit, especially now in the US, I'm holding in very high regard.

@botch Thanks for sharing. Speaking of hood, my van hood sometimes wouldn't release, especially when it's cold. Fortunately it has a hood deflector plastic thingy that I can grab and yank up.

It varies from city to city but some police departments will come and open your doors for free. I know that all too well. I'm to the point where I've bought my own inflatable bags and made a tool to break into my own truck.

  • Many of you are teetering dangerously closely to “What Are You Fixing Right Now?” thread. Absolutely reckless.
  • Just had dinner and drinks with a good friend who I don’t connect with nearly as often as I used to. Life’s just gotten too busy on both sides. Really interesting guy with all sorts of talents and an amazing intellect. But that’s beside the point….

As I’m driving to the restaurant, I am in the right lane of two left turn lanes and am coming to a stop as the light changes to red, as is the car in the lane to the left of me (also in a left turn lane, as mentioned). He’s ahead of me by about one car length. The car behind him, a new M2, is travelling at incredible speed and is clearly going to rear end the car stopping in front of him, so I brake really hard and he instead weaves dangerously into my lane to avoid collision. He comes to a stop at the stop line and I stop short of rear-ending him. Absolute jacka$$. I lean on the horn. Not five seconds later, out of a car travelling in the straight lane to the right of us emerges an XL Tim Hortons coffee being lobbed at the M2, making full contact and thoroughly coating it in coffee (looked like the drinker had opted for cream, but I can’t be sure as to sugar content). I can’t imagine anyone would serve revenge on my behalf after witnessing our incident, so I am left to deduce that the M2 driver had just pulled some similar asinine manoeuvre, offending the coffee drinker moments earlier.

Very un-Canadian and Canadian at once. Coffee karma.

@Canugghead - He looked like he could really use a car wash.
