Yesterday we flew from Oahu to the Big Island, and I did the manta ray dive at Kona last night. Unfortunately no rays showed up so that was a letdown. Today as we arrived at Kilauea Military Camp (a military only camp within Volcanoes National Park), we were told that an eruption started about 30 minutes prior to our arrival. 

It was very foggy when we arrived at the overlook, but it eventually cleared and we had some amazing views. After getting skunked last night, this was amazing to see in person:

    Wow.  Seeing the earth being born like that is very humbling.  I saw a hot lava flow there about 35 years ago, but have never seen it spraying out of the center of the earth like that.  That's awesome.  Thanks for sharing.

    According to the USGS the lava fountains reached a height of 300'. Crazy
